After returning from my small AD hiatus, I noticed some new ID's and thought it might be fun to revive this quiz. Where do you live in Politiopia, the land of custom made government?

Politopia

I am located in the NW slightly left and south of Drew Carey and south of Ayn Rand.

QUOTE
NW-You would feel most at home in the Northwest region. You advocate a large degree of economic and personal freedom. Your neighbors include folks like Ayn Rand, Jesse Ventura, Milton Friedman, and Drew Carey, and may refer to themselves as "classical liberals," "libertarians," "market liberals," "old whigs," "objectivists," "propertarians," "agorists," or "anarcho-capitalist."

This is the "bio" of NEO the a stereotypical Northwesterner:

QUOTE
NEO, a stereotypical Northwesterner

"Freedom to do whatever you'd like, as long as you don't interfere with the equal freedom of others."

My name is Neo, and I'm a software designer on the NW coast. I usually work from home, or from my sailboat while on an extended cruises. I've got friends of all stripes-some are making a lot of money in the software industry, some are gay, some are economists, some use recreational drugs, some are very religious-what they all have in common is that they're all very open-minded and tolerant.

I tend to be optimistic about the future. I believe that the most important natural resource is human creativity and that people should be able to pursue their hopes and dreams without interference from anyone else. While I recognize the importance of enforcing property rights and contracts, I think that in general, government interference in the marketplace only stifles human creativity. Politically, I describe myself as a libertarian. I loathe paying taxes, I'm disgusted by the "war on drugs," which is really just a war on people, and I think it's certainly true that "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

Centerville-You would feel most at home in Centerville, which means that you are more or less pleased the status quo-you think the US government has just about the right amount of control over your economic and personal decisions. Your neighbors include democratic and republican party leaders and others who call themselves "moderates" and "centrists."

Pretty boring.
Devils Advocate
Just like Lesly I got good ol' Centervill. I really though I was more to the left side, but I guess the short, cursory, 10 question quiz doesn't lie. Whatever, I think I just want to be more unique.

Yay Centerville.
DreamPipEr
What you don't think a 10 question quiz can accurately reflect your ideal government??? wink.gif

I wish there was a way for me to break up the poll to see how many Dem's and Rep. live in Centerville. So hopefully they will post....

I can throw a rock on Drew Carey's house, i'm just south of it, in NW politopia. I think I answered just about every question one notch up from the Libertarian extreme. That's about right for me. Nice to be your neighbor, DreamPiper.

Not sure whether or not I'm a rep or dem.....I live in MD, so being a republican is kind of pointless. I've voted republican in every presidential election since I could, but I doubt I will this fall. I don't agree with the whole Libertarian Party platform, but I would like to see more libertarian influence in government...so I'll probably vote that way this time around, but then again, I don't live in centerville.
DreamPipEr
SWM, feel free to borrow a cup of sugar any day! biggrin.gif

I have to say I agree with you on the Lib platform and would love for them to have more influence. But as for their platform, the issues I can't get past are why I remain an Independent.

Sounds exactly like where I landed SWM, looks like a good neighborhood..... well there is that DeamPiper Gal, but then, every block has it's resident looney wink2.gif Now, if they both land here then there might be trouble. mrsparkle.gif
DaffyGrl
I guess I'm within rock-tossing distance of Drew Carey, too - due south, it looks like...maybe just a smidgen to the left. biggrin.gif

Looks like a fun neighborhood! Let's have a block party! w00t.gif beer.gif w00t.gif beer.gif

Looks like I'm also near Drew Carey's house. However, I disagree with the implications of the questions. Some of them were either/or questions related to federal vs. non-government controls. I'm more a "moderate" libertarian who believes that the order of taxation should go most to local, then to state, then last to federal. I also don't see a fundamental difference between "private" insurance and government insurance. It's still a tax as far as I'm concerned.

Finally, I don't see privatization as the panacea for our social ills. I think it can work in the right situations, but like all things it needs to be proven to work in a given situation. Of course, I believe this is true for government programs as well. My modest proposal I always like to bring up is: what if we privatized the military? Or even better yet: what if we privatized our nuclear stockpile. Anyone could buy shares in a nuke and effect their own deterrence strategy wink.gif. Just a modest proposal though.

So either this quiz is slanted towards the Libertarians or the libertarian leaning members are the only ones weighing in so far. detective.gif

I guess the housing market is hot just NW of Drew Carey, because I'm there too. It seems like the party supplies are covered, so I'll bring some food. Fresh shrimp and maybe some peach cobbler sound good? mrsparkle.gif
DaffyGrl
logophage, you old party poop! wink.gif
Jaime, sounds absolutely yumMY! Good eats, good drinks, good neighbors...wow, we've got it all. I guess the other neighborhoods turn in early; I'm sure they'll weigh in tomorrow. whistling.gif

For Sale: 1 800 square foot bungalow, features 1 bedroom and an outhouse. A steal at $500,000. 50% down payment required. Common charges are low, only $1,000 per month. Serious inquiries only.

I may have to bag on the party. Once I sell my condo I may move to the South East with my wealth and live off the government for a few years.

What wealth? If the SE keep growing your wealth will be lost to the taxes that support everyone down there. Not to mention the fact that you'd be one of the few people doing anything biggrin.gif

Face it, your stuck with us, the people down there would drive you crazy wink2.gif
DreamPipEr
Ok, I will hide the cash in an offshore bank and live off the richer Southeasterner's, I mean government for a few years. Oh I know I couldn't do it for too long but just long enough so that I can buy a bigger and better house.
SWM28WDC
My question is: since, by default, we are all Republicans or Democrats, or at least represented by them, where is THAT line? I think it's perpendicular to "the Main Stream", and runs from the NW to the SE, with the Republicans residing to the north and east, and the Democrats living to the south and west. Kind of leaves us in NW and those misguided folks in SE without good representation, huh?

SW- You would feel most at home in the Southwest region You advocate a large degree of personal freedom and a large degree of government control over the economy. Thats Me

Obviously, like most quizes, they are flawed; but they are nonetheless fun, interesting and - if you get the desired result - satisfying.
Robin_Scotland
Centerville? Heh heh, that makes a change, I usually get pushed out farther from the middle than I think is correct. I am dead centre from left to right (more to less personal freedoms) and am slightly south (more government control of the economy) with my nearest peer being John Kerry.

I'm not sure I agree with that, I think I support more personal freedoms, but being near the middle is more accurate than other quizzes that placed me almost falling off the edge on the liberal/left.

West-You are a Westerner-a civil libertarian-which means that you advocate a diminished role for the government in the personal realm. You are more or less pleased the government's role in the economic realm.

So I am the first Westerner. When I took the quiz, there were 15 questions; not really sure how accurate this is... I would think you'd need 70 or 80 questions for a really good cross-sampling but if it were any more than 15, I don't think as many people would be willing to spend the time to get to the end result. tongue.gif
Dontreadonme
Dead on NW. It looks like I'm rooming with Drew Carey.
Interesting quiz, but it certainly could have included a few more questions to round out ones political make-up.
turnea
Isn't that funny, I'm as just about as close to John Kerry as possible laugh.gif

Centerville for me, didn't see that coming blink.gif

Clearly, this quiz is brief on foreign policy...

Pretty decent domestically, though mrsparkle.gif

I Know a postgraduate Student at the univrsity of sydney who devised a great political quiz - I am going to contact him and ask if he can open it up for Americas Debate.

So either this quiz is slanted towards the Libertarians or the libertarian leaning members are the only ones weighing in so far.

The quiz does seem to be slanted to me, though my result (NW corner, south and to the west of Drew Carey) was more or lest the result I tend to get in these quizzes (left libertarian).
Setting the two axes as personal and economic seems simplistic to me, ignoring issues that many of us feel are at least as important while forcing those of us who consider economic concerns to be secondary into a meaningless placement.
Victoria Silverwolf
I am a pure Westerner. The stereotype fits me very well indeed:

QUOTE
"Freedom of conscience, freedom of speech, freedom of expression."

My name is Neville. I am an artist and a feminist-well, basically I'm pro-choice on most everything. Everybody should be able to express themselves precisely as they see fit. I mean, if a man wants to dress up in something feminine and elegant and enjoy a few cocktails out on the town, then what's the big deal? If a woman wants to dance in the nude for money, then more power to her. And, even though I simply cannot stand such stuff, if heavy metal guitar players want to scream profanity to the high heavens, then they should turn up those big black amps and just do it. Personally, I see life as a grand opportunity-it's all about exploration and experience. I'm not really interested in economic issues, but I do think that for the most part people are just too materialistic.

Good old Neville and I would get along just fine. I'm not an artist, but I greatly respect the arts. I tend to be more concerned with social/cultural issues than economic issues.
