Question to debate:
Do you like the design of the new $50 bill? What do you or don't you like?

My take:
The front of the bill looks pretty much the same as the old one with the exception of the missing frame around the portrait and waving flag in the back ground. I dislike the back of the bill which has some type of inverted rainbow with too much dead space. They could have put a seal of some sort in there, instead of the weird looking butterflies.

There's supposed to be a "$50" in front of the title of "bills". I don't know where it went, but I'm sorry for any inconvenience. Can one of the mods change it to "fifty dollar bills" if they have the chance?

not a big fan of this new rainbow paper the 20s are printed on...and now 50s soon it seems. It's tacky. All the little 50s flying around on the back are kind of tacky too.

If it makes them harder to counterfeit I guess it's worth it. wacko.gif rolleyes.gif

I voted don't care as long as it works...though my second choice would be No. There's got to be a better design that would discourage counterfeiting. Seems like they just changed the bills not long ago...I'm suprised there is already a need to do so again.

I think it's funny that the reason for changing the design is to stop counterfeiting. Seems to me that changing it too often makes it easier to pass fake bills, since nobody knows the details about what the heck the bill is supposed to look like!

not only that but there still some of the last 20 bills (and I think some original ones as weel) in circulation. you know the ones that they just changed from because they were being counterfieted.

there is no way to stop counterfieting of money. they come out with new bills, the counterfieters come up with new methods.

as for what I think of the new 20's and now the new 50's, I don't care, so long as when I present it at the store it is accepted.

I had a $20 the old kind and tried to buy my groceries with it but the machine wouldn't take it! This $20 had come from an ATM machine too and was perfectly legit.

I agree that changing bills so often is probably problematic.

As long as it works. American money has always been fairly unattractive compared to most other currencies - it tends to look like some sort of bond or certificate or something. At least the new bills give a bit more prominence to the artwork and have a little color. That said, I've never quite understood why Grant was given a place on a bill in the firt place. Because he accepted bribes while in office? Because gold speculation wreaked havoc during his administration? Because, after his presidency, the financial firm in which he was a partner went bankrupt? Surely there's some American of note who better represents some sort of fiscal responsibility...
