A couple of weeks I posted how Jack Ryan was running for the Senate in Illinois but stepped down after he was to reveal his Divorce alligations.
Well today Republicans are tossing around Mike Ditka's name.
My first thought is WHAT?
Mike Ditka the Bear"s former Football coach?
I know there are former actors and a wrestler that hold government offices now but really Mike Ditka?

From everything I've read (and it's not much), this is a "draft" campaign by the Illinois chapter of FreeRepublic. I doubt seriously that it's going to go anywhere.

There's no evidence that Iron Mike has a real interest in politics, and even if the Freepers can get enough petition signatures, there is no guarantee that Ditka would accept.

Besides, they are looking to install him as not only the states next Republican senator, but Chairman of the state's Republican Committee as well? Seems like a rather daunting task for a political neophyte, assuming, as I said earlier, he is even interested at all.

I'd chalk this one up to "wishful thinking" on the part of some Republicans desperate to find a name to beat Barak Obama. Ditka would be a real stretch to win, considering every well known and well-liked Republican in the state has backed away from this election. Nobody wants Obama's train to run them over.
