Well we all know where we are with this year's Presidential race. There really are 2 sides of the fence, either you are a staunch Bush supporter and will vote Republican, or you dislike Bush so much, that you will vote for the person with the best chance for beating him. I fall into the latter group, and admit, I can't jump up and down with excitement regarding the choice that I will make. I want to be excited. I want to support a ticket that I believe in, not just to do a BETTER job, but to lead our country the way it should be lead. At the end of the day, all that concerns me is Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness.
If I could select a ticket, today, for the 2008 election, I nominate the (and you guys thought that you knew me) Republican ticket of McCain/Powell.
If you could choose a dream ticket for 2008, who would be on that ticket? (Great chance to learn about possible candidates that are not in the mainstream today.)
(For the sake of discussing new topics, let us omit any current ticket from discussion.)

I'd have a hard time voting against McCain/Powell myself, although I have lost a good deal of faith in Powell in the past two years.
I find the pickings from the Democrats pretty slim. Governors tend to have more success than congress people in presidential elections (I believe JFK was the last sitting member of congress to become president and before him . . . . . . . . . ... McKinley?)
I think our present governor
Phil Bredesen has done a good job.
I also like former civil rights leader and present GA congressmen
John Lewis. I have never heard of national political aspirations for either. I would love to have the opportunity to vote for a Lewis/anybody ticket.

I think George Voinovich might be a good choice.
He has been Mayor of a fair sized city (Cleveland), Governor of a fairly large State (Ohio) and now Senator. A broad range of experience.
U.S. Senator George Voinovich George Voinovich on the IssuesHe may not be as conservative as some choices, but he has my respect.
I wonder if he will agree to be my running mate?

Congressman Paul has many views favor liberty.

Ron Paul / Jesse Ventura
Ventura is the only pol to get any reasonable recognition from the press (even if they do treat him as a freakshow) who's views I admire.

False. I am voting for Michael Badnarik, Libertarian candidate for President. So not everyone is on one of two sides.
Also: my dream ticket? Ron Paul for President / L. Neil Smith for Vice President in 2008.

Grendel, while that is an excellent choice I'd go with... Jesse Ventura/Ron Paul.
At Wrestlemania, Ventura said that he probably will be running for president in 2008. I am drooling over that possibility, I'd elect the guy supreme overlord of the solar system, never mind president.

I Christopher do hereby announce my intention to seek the office of the Presidency in 2008. My running mate will be chosen on national television on FOX as the theme of a new reality series American president.

I agree with JC, there is another element. Those that are unhappy with Bush but will never vote for Kerry (unless he does/say's something between now and election that sways that opinion and Bush has every opportunity to do the same).
My dream Pres candidate is Ventura too. I don't care who he wants as his VP as I don't see him selecting someone without forethought.
My runner up would be Ron Paul too.
oops, Christopher just announced he is running, I may go with him as another potential or he can be Ventura's running mate!

It is interesting to see Ventura mentioned. I voted for him when I lived in Minnesota. I like the guy, but I will never vote for him again to hold public office. Being cool is one thing. Getting things done is another. Talk to people in Minnesota. Just a thought.

I couldn't bring myself to vote for someone that was a pro wrestler at one point, regardless of what his views were. I just wouldn't be able to take him seriously, and the international ridicule would be insane.

Really who cares about international ridicule. As for the people of Minnesota there GM did he fail to accomplish things because of incompetence or because he was locked out by the Dems and Repubs? just curious because that was my feel when he was elected is that he would be deliberatly sidelined to assure that the populace would never again support an third party candidate and thereby strengthen the status quo.

Good point, but I think this is a 2-way street. He was an outsider, and failed at overcoming that. He had no agenda when he moved into the Mansion. His kids threw wild parties, and he was viewed as thin-skinned, arrogant, and a great Divider when he left office...........
Maybe he is qualified to be President.....

My ticket:
Ron Paul/JC Watts
I really wish more conservatives would start promoting Paul for national office, he's not well known outside his district, Libertarians and political wonks, but he would appeal to a lot of ordinary people with his common sense.

As Many have stated: Congressman Ron Paul
His SiteRepublican Liberty Caucus
And Tony Knowles of Alaska
His SiteDemocratic Freedom Caucus
Ok, so a Republican President and a Democrat Vice President isn't that likely. But these would work well together, and would work for all of us.
It's time we gave the Libertarians a Chance. If they can't yet win on their own, then lets get some libertarians from the "big two" in there to show America how good it can be.

Despite Ventura's lack of tact, and his inability to articulate himself clearly, he was genuinely a person who fought for what he believed in.
He's just the kind of person I could see myself voting for....the downside to having him governor was the fact that the state congress worked against him...however I don't see it being any less effective than what we have now, with the two major political parties constantly bickering.
I'd like to see former Governor Arne Carlson run for office...there's a guy who got things done.

Count me in the Jesse Ventura camp. He campaigned on a Harley and puffs on a cigar in blissful defiance of political correctness. How can we go wrong? The Dems & Reps will come after him with so much negative b.s., Farenheit 911 will look like a kiddie movie.

I have to admit that I don't know much about many of the senators, representatives and political figures outside of my state but...
I think that my dream ticket would be for a minority or a woman for president. I definitely do not buy into the republican party line, but I could support something like Powell/McCain. I really don't have a problem supporting Republicans as long as they are fiscally conservative to moderate, socially moderate to liberal and don't buy into the religious right agenda or the neo-con agenda. I would certainly look into their platform, but any of the aforementioned things are going to immediately lose you my vote.
I also wouldn't mind seeing something like Hillary Clinton / Some VP or Diane Feinstein / Some VP.

Indeed, he's done a superb job as governor. I would get behind him.
But my dream ticket:
Dean/Kucinich Green Party '08!
-or-
Nader/Kucinich Green Party '08
-or-
Sharpton/Kucinich Green Party '08
None of those will ever happen, but it's fun to wish...

P.J. O'Rourke/Dennis Miller as the Republican ticket.
Can you imagine trying to debate those two? And O'Rourke is, just like me, a libertarian but not ideologically rigid. Firm enough for a solid backbone, but flexible enough to function politically.
I expect I may have the opportunity to support Jesse Ventura as an independent candidate in 2008, and if so I certainly will.
I'd love to see Ron Paul run but without a major shift in public opinion he'd be an interesting fringe candidate like Dennis Kucinich, nothing more. I did vote for him when he ran on the LP ticket.
