ROFL, just when you think you have seen them all there is actually a National Association for the Advancment of Fat Acceptance now. Surely all these people are victims of "lookist" discrimination and the pervasive "lookism" that runs through our society inhibiting the socio-economic status of fat people. Fat people are being oppressed by stereotypes of beauty and as we know all human beings are equally beautiful. The federal government should take affirmative action to compensate for this phenomena - perhaps in the form of dates paid for by the federal government to compensate for unjust discrimination by human beings with eyes. The distribution of sexual partners is this country is outrageous and monopolized and created entirely by an oppressor caste in the culture in magazines such as Vogue, Maxim, and Playboy as well as the so-called beautiful models which men find attractive. We must end this form of insidious discrimination and lookist bigotry for progress to be made for we can get past the ridiculous 20th century stereotypes of attractiveness. I propose a Constitutional Amendment banning all forms of "lookist" discrimination, such as the extending the hate speech laws to cover fat jokes, affirmative action for fat models in the fashion industry, and reparations from the fashion industry to victims of lookist discrimination under the newly proposed Civil Rights Act of 2010.

Hey Fade,

Interesting site. Did you check out the Hall of Fame? The lawsuits?

I'm a pretty big guy at 6'0" and 290 lbs. I once weighed in at 165, but that was when I was a starving college student. Yah get thicker as yah age, at least that's what my genetic code tells me (Scandenavian/German). All of my family gets big.

I had one brother who got skinny but now he is dead. He was five years older than me. That was about five years ago.

I have another brother, seven years older, who got shocked into eating normally and letting the fat cells go where they wanted to. Before this, he took all sorts of strange concoctions to keep the gut away.

It's a scientific fact that some genetic strains improve fat retention, and thus survival over famine times, than others. We pretty much understand the fat mechanism, even to the point of understanding "morbid obesity" versus "voluntary obesity". I'm fat, have slightly low blood pressure, can lift heavy objects, and walk many miles. But you know what? Some people don't like big people, especially those who are insecure with themselves. I'm not sure exactly why this is--are they afraid? I do have huge, powerful hands and arms. I guess that could be intimidating. Could be archetypical memories of my heritage: Vikings and Huns who would rather twist your pencil neck than look at you.

Anyway, thanks for the link. Interesting!
Neil
That site is ridiculous. It's basically a bunch of people who want to feel good about being fat. I registered there a while back and offered some fitness advice to them in their fitness forum. I was told I could be banned if I continued. I guess I made someone feel fat.

You can't leave me in suspense like that, Neil! What kind of advice did you offer (and how did they interpret it?)?

Beauty is a social construct. There is no such thing as "beauty" just like there is no such thing as "race." After all, where is the precise boundry between beauty and ugliness? All human beings are equally attractive. "Lookist" discrimination is the civil rights struggle of the 21st Century and we must fight it with all our power. An oppressor caste of models creates a cultural stereotype of beauty which determines which females men may or may not find attractive which affect their emotions creating inequality. As soon as we abolish stereotypical lookism and the institutional lookism in society through various means: outlawing fat jokes as hate speech, Affirmative Action for victims of lookist discrimination, and reparations for past lookist discrimination a new utopian society free of all lookism will be established and as children of the world we can live in the magical global village of complete equality ROFL. To this end we have established the National Association for the Advancement of Fat Acceptance which shall be the vanguard of our revolution!

I think that's totally inappropriate. Some people have a genetic pre-disposition for being overweight, and our society places a lot of misguided emphasis on appearance.

An example: I had to have a surgery when I was sixteen that required my jaw to be wired shut for an extended period of time. I am a petite person by nature, and during that time period, my weight dropped to 80 pounds. I was ill from lack of nourishment, and I was suffering from a severe iron deficiency. I can't tell you how many times people told me during that time period that they wished that they had a figure like mine. It was sick and sad, and it took me more than five years to raise my body weight to an acceptable level.

The media perpetuates this idea that certain body types are acceptable and others are not. I don't think that we need affirmative action for those who are over-weight, but I do think that the media should represent people in a more realistic light, particularly in fashion magazines for young girls.

Lookism: The Ugly Truth About Beauty Like It or Not, Looks Do Matter

Aug. 23 — We like to think of America as a meritocracy. A lot of us think we value people because of what they accomplish, or their character, or generosity, or intelligence — that's what we thought mattered, but are we just putting blinders on?

More often than not it seems qualities other than skill, intelligence or character pay off. Here's an example. Anna Kournikova is ranked 37th in women's tennis, and has never won a major singles championship. So, why is it that Kournikova makes millions more dollars from endorsements than players ranked higher?

Looks don't only make a difference for women. Does New York Giants' cornerback Jason Sehorn get so much attention just because he's a top athlete? Is that why he was featured in Sports Illustrated for Women?

You probably know about the famous Kennedy-Nixon debates — people listening on the radio thought Richard Nixon had won. Those watching TV thought the handsome John F. Kennedy won.

When Texas Sen. Phil Gramm sought the Republican nomination for president in 1996, he said: "The real question is whether someone as ugly as I am can be elected." Within months, Gramm dropped out of the race. . . . . .

Interesting how Affirmative Action is necessary for victims of racial discrimination and institutional racism but not those who are victims of lookist discrimination and institutional lookism which is overwhelmingly more pervasive.

ROFL this whole anti-discrimination and Civil Rights nonsense is nothing more than pandora's box. I can already see the next equality struggle. something that is f****** impossible, on the horizon.

Are you being sarcastic with that comment? I wasnt sure, since all you seem to go on about is how all races are dfferent. Just wanted to clarify.

And so...Are we saying that all fat people should be discriminated against then? Is it also that everyone who happens to be fat is slow, stupid and unable to perform the same tasks that the thin perform? ....
