Al Gore said In 60 minutes that he would not enter the next election. Is he lying?

Unless his popularity sags in the coming months, I think Bush will be reelected

History could very well rhyme on this one. Watch for an end run from a Demo who isn't well known now, who has nothing to lose, and who will stand up for classic liberal and democratic issues. It is always easier to attack your opponent than to defend your record. My suspicion is that this dark horse comes from Vermont.

The economy will need to rebound powerfully in 2003 in order for the ripple benefits (jobs) to come to the unemployed by 2004. If this happens, and I am hopeful it does, Bush may not go the route his father went. However, if the Demos get some conjoles and fight like the dickens, the election could become primarily focused on "the vision thing" that neither Bush has. That would leave GWB with the stance that it is better to not change horses midstream.

Gore will not run. Can you imagine going through another chad and butterfly incident? I suspect he will spend the rest of his life becoming the Jimmy Carter of vice presidents. The man has a good mind and soul. Maybe the best thing that happened to him was losing to Bush.

The worst thing that the Repubs can do is underestimate the opposition. Repubs need to keep in mind that the last election was a squeaker. Popularity is a fickle thing and can turn on a dime. I know that, locally and state wide here, a lot of questions are being raised about the Republican leadership. Repubs suffer from arrogance when they have too much power. Liberal thinkers will actually vote Repub to avoid too much government during good economic times, and they head back to the Democrats during hard economic times.

The only exception to this was Ronald Reagan who successfully duped rust belt working Democrats to cross-vote out of desperation. And then they lost their jobs anyway. The high-tech industries picked up a lot of the former steel and auto workers, along with lots of teachers. Now the high-tech workers are out of work.

This spells trouble for the Republicans. They should worry and wake screaming in the night from the chants of the disenfranchised: Hil-la-ree Hil-la-REE! Bring us health care cards!

Well, if not the politicians, then the AMA and drug company execs.

I've stated in previous posts that I believe Howard Dean of Vermont will win the nomination of the party. I've even been so bold as to state that I think he'll win the White House. Perhaps with Edwards as his running mate? Time will tell, and if my predictions come true... Well, frankly, I wouldn't be particularly astonished. ohmy.gif

Happy New Year, everybody!

Gore is not running in 2004 for the same reason he did not run in '92. He thinks Bush is unbeatable. Of course, he was wrong then. Gore is looking at 2008. Bush could lose against a moderate, pro-war Democrat. I think Al is hoping for a Bush victory.
