I have been reading some of Thomas Sowell lately- and it is very hard to plug through much of it- if the guy were white, it would be obvious that the guy is racist against blacks- I think this first came onto my concious when I started watching Clarence Thomas more closely- but there seems to be a small group of blacks that cater to the conservative white notions of race relations- they are certainly NOT trying to sell books of self help to blacks LOL

Who is the audience of self described conservative writers?

Can they legitimately be called either "uncle toms" in the traditional sense or self hating blacks?

Um...conservatives?

Can they legitimately be called either "uncle toms" in the traditional sense or self hating blacks?
So are we at a point in society that calling someone a 'Uncle Tom' is legitimate?? The question is farcical in nature. Calling someone an uncle Tom, or a sellout, because they do not subscribe to the 'groupthink' that liberals think they should, is patently offensive. When that name is spewed like the garbage that it is, it only proves the theory that to some people, (OK, liberals...I haven't heard any conservatives call anybody that) diversity isn't even skin deep, it's skin tone, and tolerance exists only to those who agree with you.
Here we have an intelligent black man, a role model to some when we (and especially the black community) have few, aside from overpaid sports figures; and he's ridiculed for not being a liberal.
Pathetic........

Conservative white notions of race relations.........Hmmm......By your definition, I guess you can call me a racist then.

Okay, let me put it this way- if you read anything by David Duke post-repudiation of the KKK- you would call him a racist and toss his statements out- now- you have Thomas Sowell- that prints very similar, of not exactly, the same thing- what makes them so different?

For instance- David Duke is against affirmative action- and so is Thomas Sowell-

and in fact, thier articles are very similar

http://www.duke.org/library/immigration/bizarreaffact.html

It was when I was reading many of Sowell articles that I came across the similarities in white supremists articles - it was not intentional, something I was looking for- then I started looking at actual white supremists (the ones that try to legitimize themselves through reasoned debate vs just anti-jew and black diatribes) and I was really struck by the similarity in both content and "emotional target" of the writing.

I will take it one step further- here is the definition of Uncle Tom:

Uncle Tom

noun {C usually singular} OFFENSIVE DISAPPROVING

a black person who is considered to be too eager to agree with white people or too willing to be treated in a way that is not equal to white people

Now- why would Sowell, target his books to a VERY predominately WHITE male audience that wants to agree with him? I am sure Sowell is not selling out books to Blacks LOL- if his main audience was a black author trying to get the black community to change thier ways or what have you, it would be different- but his books are CLEARLY not targeted to anyone but the conservative white reader.
