I do not care if they were or were not protesting.
The fact that they are among a group of people and people, when in groups are in a group, people are emotional animals that will strike at anything. Don't neglect the power of the mob and the mob mentality.
The police have to do whatever they can to keep order.
QUOTE
Nonsense,
yehoshua.
Peaceful, non-violent protest in as American as apple pie. People who depreciate dissent seem to lack of understanding of both democracy and history. How far do you think the American Revolution would have progressed if everyone went home peacefully when the British ordered them to clear the streets?
People are not animals. Animals are animals and while there will always be people of a violent temperament lurking among the largely peaceful, that is not a sufficient reason to bar protest because it inconviences a few and discomforts the powerful.
Non-conformists scare those who believe power should be blindly followed, never questioned and never challenged. Sticks should be employed before carrots. And an extremist is anyone who doesn't behave as they do. Unchecked police authority is more dangerous to the existence of a free society than a loose congregation of separate interests coming together at one place at one time.
Or do you really think
yehoshua that a man with a sign in his hand is more dangerous than one with a gun?
Fight the power. Rage against he machine. It's easier to get forgiveness than permission.
The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood. --- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let them label you as they may. --- Mark Twain

All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state. --- Bonito Mussolini
