I'm sure by now we've all heard Greenspans bad news for retiring Americans.
What should be done about this impending crisis?
Once upon at time before the 2000 election Pr.Bush had hinted at partially privatizing social security and people had fits. This is the solution I support! If just 2% of every ones Social Security payments were placed in private IRA accounts, an American new to the work force (18 yr. old burger flippers and such) did this their entire working lives with an average annual return from a mutual fund being just 12% these kids would retire Millionaires!
But the middle aged workers are the ones in the real pinch, they do not have the advantage of time on their side that the "Burger flippers" do. Many have pensions to live off of or 401(k)s. The rest are gonna be out of luck. Now there is talk of raising yet again the age at which one can collect S.S. Unfortunately many wont last that long and never collect this is what the politicians in Washington are counting on! They want us to die before we can collect!
The one solution I keep hearing at work is that S.S. Benefits should be only for those who dont have any other reitrement plan and depend on it and the rest who have pensions they can live off of wouldn't collect. This is Socialistic!
They've paid in to this their whole working life and desrve this money.
Before I leave it up to you good folks I must also point out that Pr.Bushs plan of privatization by nature requires every American to invest in their own future! Just think of the rise in the Stock Markets this would create! All those people investing gives American Companies the funds they need to expand, this creates JOBS!!!
