I have been reading and hearing a lot about abolishing the IRS. The most advanced theories on how to do this are the Flat tax and the national sales tax.

The flat tax is basically the same sort of system we have now except we know what we will loose each year out of our paychecks. Therefore eliminating the IRS.

The national sales tax is a tax on all being estimated at about 23% with exemptions for those around the poverty level.

My personal opinion is that I don't like either. I'd rather leave things the way they are then have a national sales tax of 23% on top of the state sales tax. The flat tax would be fine with me, if for nothing more then getting rid of the IRS.

It's come to my attention that there may be a third option. The Advanced Payment Tax (APT TAX). Basically it says that we tax every transaction, on both sides, at about .3%. so on a $100 transaction I would pay $100.30 instead of $100 and on the back end the seller would match my $.30.

Is reforming the tax code feasible/good idea?

Is abolishing the IRS feasible/good idea?

How would you go about changing the tax code if you could?
