In a 2-1 decision overturning a lower court, a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the state has a right to police the sale of devices that can be sexually stimulating.

Why thats because it could lead to people enjoying sex.

That is why we haven't had a Democratic president in a while (and I don't count Clinton because he won on charisma, not platform).

Who "lost" Kerry the election?

A very frank discussion (although I could not participate sad.gif ) which demonstrates the internal divides of the Democrat party.

This is one of the best topics on any subject all year. Kudos to Artemise for her honesty and candor.

QUOTE(nighttimer @ Oct 29 2004, 08:38 PM)
That's the thing about the tortured, convoluted logic.  It's like shaking up a bag full of rattlesnakes.  Open it up and everybody gets bitten.

A wonderful gem from lederuvdapac:

People are not accepting many liberal progressive policies because they do not see them as progressing to anywhere they want to be.

Just marking this one down for best quote:

QUOTE(DaffyGrl)
If we were to "take over" all terrorist "safe havens", it would be like playing Worldwide Whack-a-Mole.
Paladin Elspeth
Political Debate/General Political Debate/Now that the election has ended, Can we as Americans find common ground? Post #22
QUOTE(NiteGuy November 12 @ 12:53pm)
Twice, he put his arm around the Democrat's shoulder, said "let's work together on this", and we ended up with a "kick me" sign attached to the back of our jackets. How many more times do we need to have it happen?
Lesly
I nominate Doclotus's second post in Naive and Dangerous Words for most convincing post.
Devils Advocate
I'd like to nominate Entspeak's entire post (#125) for either best post or most persuasive.

Asked whether he was happy that no WMD where found in Iraq, Ranciduncle had this to say.
QUOTE
Are you happy that no WMDs have yet to of been found?
QUOTE(Rancid Uncle)
I'm elated. I'm elated an aggressive dictator didn't have dangerous weapons that could have been used against our troops. I must hate America.

First post by Gunny...i nominate for best quote

http://www.americasdebate.com/forums/index...60&#entry137916

QUOTE(Gunny)
If hearing President Bush say "bring 'em on" is all it takes for Jihad Joe to poke his head up, then finding himself on the receiving end of an A-10 Warthog should leave a much more lasting impression.

"Jihad Joe"...i love it

I would like to save this little number from Christopher for consideration in the Best Quotes Category.

QUOTE
Either the people of Iraq and the middle east will embrace democracy in whatever form best suits them--or they will just have to continue to live under the heel of tyrants and make the most of it. You have to want to be free.

I'm nominating Turnea for Most Convincing Post Here.

Talk about a way to get the bottom line up front....and he's younger than many of us. Gives me some faith in the youth of America. flowers.gif
QUOTE(turnea @ Feb 5 2005, 04:19 PM)
What kids need to know about are the 13th and 14th amendments including the actual circumstances leading to there adoption. Then they need to learn about the long (really long) struggle for their enforcement. No child should leave high school not knowing the gist of Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education Topeka, Kansas. They should learn about the mass behavior in addition to that of a few notable individuals. Finally, they should understand how these things served to form the backbone of current American society. From due process laws to expansion of franchise to the majority of Americans including women.

These token references teach people nothing, they are precisely what is wrong with Black History Month today.  I'm referring to real education, in school, not blurbs that end up as snack breaks on American Idol. rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
Perhaps not everything is meant to be quantified to satisfy our curiosity.

I would like to nominate the above line by Paladin Elspeth for quote of the year. It is from post #9 on this thread:

http://www.americasdebate.com/forums/index...=0&#entry142024

While it may not be as flamboyant as some of the others, it more than makes up for it in substance. PE in her own gentle way has nudged us toward the reality that not every element in life can be quantified, measured or tested.

I'm nomintating this post by moif for it's clarity in breaking down some of the reasons for the fundamental differences in diplomatic/military responses between the Europeans and Americans.

QUOTE(christopher @ Feb 26 2005, 03:11 AM)
Of all the POVs from our past is the attitude towards women as being subservient and of secondary social importance has been the most harmful. While many will argue that the changes that occured in the period from the 60s to present have freed women i would argue it has trapped many more in even worse straits. women have been encouraged to be more like men--Who thought that was a good idea?

QUOTE
I am going to vote for, advocate, and push for a government which enforces what I think is right. It only makes sense for other people to do so as well.

Poking around America's Debate I see a banner at the bottom of someone's profile once and a while saying: "Winner, Person You Would Most Like to Meet". If any such category is in the running I would like to suggest doomed_planet.
