Titus! You young whippersnapper...
I'd like to thank all here for their most kind words and thoughts. I consider you all friends and it means a lot to me. I especially enjoyed the Reagan quotes, I never tire of reading them, and I do understand how difficult quoting him is for some of you.

I sincerely appreciate the effort.
And
Wertz, my good buddy and constant adversary, the poem you shared is wonderful. It, in a most elequoent fashion describes much of the way I've attempted to spend my 52 years (thus far) here on this planet. And, yep, you guessed it, that leads me to "a story".....
Back when I was a child in the 1950's (that's AD,
Titus

), there emerged a wonderful invention called the transistor radio. It was small enough for me to be able to hide it under the covers in my bed at night so I could listen to the Denver Bears baseball games. They used to do re-creations of games in those days where they would take basic wire reports of the game progress and turn them into a "play-by-play". It's the way Ronald Reagan got started in show business. The Bears' guy was a fellow named Jack Jolley and he had a particular saying that has stuck with me and is a foundational principle of my life. If the Bears were behind late in the game, he'd always remain optimistic about their chances, probably to keep all of us listening. Say they were behind 5 runs going into the ninth inning, Jack would say, "Well, we're down 5 runs and have three outs left, but the meat of the order is coming to the plate. We can pull this one out.
It ain't no hill for a stepper!"
Well, life is that way, we all meet challenges, some of them daunting and seemingly impossible to overcome, but they really aren't. You can score 6 runs in the ninth inning and end up victorious. It's possible, but you'll never know unless you try. Life is full of challenges, but there ain't a one of them that's any hill for a stepper.
So, once again, thank you all for your most kind thoughts and wishes. Ronald Reagan once told his political adversary, Tip O'Neil (another fine Irish-American) that politics ended in Washington at 6. After that, they could get together and share a few beers together.
It is well after 6 here in California, so to all........
Cheers!!
