I'm not a republican, so I don't have a horse in the race but,
If Cheney decided not to run with Bush for reelection because of health reasons, who would you like to see as his VP running mate and why?

Now be serious, what republican would actually be good for the country?

........Why do I get the feeling I'm going to get some Falwell or Limbaugh answers here just to be sarcastic? tongue.gif

BTW this is under General Political Debate because I'm actually interested if liberals think any moderate or conservative would be good for the country

Jaime
Condolezza Rice.

No one really knows her personal politics and she's got "face." She's an extremely intelligent, beautiful, black woman. She'd be easy to market - which is what our elections have been reduced to since the rise of on-demand media wink.gif

Condi is way too liberal and isn't a politician. Same with Powell. Why not John McCain? That will never happen. Bush won't pick anyone who will outshine him. Maybe if you gave McCain a Lobotamy?

If Bush won't pick anyone who will outshine him, who's left? Dan Quayle?? I would've recommended McCain as well - if the Republican Party really wanted to clean up in 2004. Something tells me, though, that McCain has too much dignity to run on such a ticket.

Rice or Powell would never happen. What - and alienate a good 20% of their constituency? Hah! Bad enough a Republican cabinet finally had to "look like America" - the RNC would never put one of "them" on a presidential ticket.

How about Bush/Lieberman? Oh, wait - Lieberman's supposed to be a Democrat, isn't he?
Hugo
If I was Bush, and if Cheney is not available, I would give strong consideration to J.C. Watts. Now that would shake things up.

You know who I'd love to see? Ron Paul. In fact, I'd love to see him as the President.
Hugo
Paul is also my choice for President, no chance however.

I think this board's administrator, Mike would make a fantastic running mate for 'W' in 04! cool.gif
Wertz
Stefan! You do Mike a serious disservice! biggrin.gif
otseng
No, no, no. Jaime as Prez and Mike as VP. tongue.gif

Now that's a ticket I could back! smile.gif
Jaime
We're not old enough blush.gif us.gif

Thanks for all the support though.

Wonder how many members there will be to back the Jaime/Mike 2016 ticket? biggrin.gif

Oh - right. Well, that gives us some time to nudge you to the left a bit. wink2.gif

CONDI wub.gif !!

She's smart:

She received her B.A. degree from the University of Denver in 1974 at the age of 19. She graduated cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her M.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1975 and her Ph.D. in 1981 from the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies. cool.gif

I guess that's why Daddy Bush & Bush Jr. picked her us.gif

Bill Frist is being tested out for running in 2004 by being chosen by Bush for the majority leader, right. The republicans should pick someone like Frist who is an okay 2008 candidate.

Frist is alright too us.gif

He picked up PR points when he saved those people in (of all places) Florida in the county where the 2000 elections were held up at blush.gif

They would be very very smart to pick Rice. In one fell swoop they would put the Lott spectacle to rest, as well as garner a number of voters who would otherwise vote another ticket. If you've got a black woman that conservative, it would be a shame for the party not to go for the points they could get out of putting her on a ticket!
Dontreadonme
Too bad the Republican Party is not especially well known for making smart political moves.

But Condi would have to be at the top of my list right now also.

Bush doesn't have anything to prove to anyone, except those who somehow think Condi Rice and Colin Powell aren't really black. He should appoint whomever he wants. Condi Rice would be fine, but she's doing a great job where she is, and as was mentioned, she's a strategist, not a pol. Any choice will be criticized by those whose goal is to criticize--with some, he can't win, so why pander?
