I often opine about the good old days when the punks in movies just stuck each other with knives. The survival rate is much higher and the innocent bystander deaths drop precipitously.

How is this a Domestic Policy debate? What is "Bowling for Columbine"? Please don't assume everyone knows what you're talking about.

As sensational as school shooting are, they are way down the list of problems in our schools. Worrying about this is diverting from much more important problems.

The movie asked this question
Why is there so much gun violence in America compared to Canada even though Canada has lots of guns, large unemployment, same media and is very close to the U.S.

In Switzerland, all men between 16 and 60 have a gun. Their murder rate is even lower than Canada.
What's this about high unemployment in Canada?

My question would be "what would you prefer people to use to kill?" People are going to kill whether it is with a gun, a knife, a hammer, or a car. What I don't understand is why don't people look more deeply at why people kill not what tool they use to accomplish their means. If you all have seen the auto commercial (Amico I believe) it says that car insurance isn't really about cars because cars don't do the wrong things... it is about people. The same thing can be said for guns, gun control isn't about guns, it is about people and the only thing that more gun control does is hurt the law abiding citizens. Criminals will get whatever tool they need to commit crimes regardless of what the laws state and use those tools and their tactics on the soon to be unarmed and helpless law abiding citizen.

That's the question why do Americans kill each other, the people. What is wrong with the people? Canadian have guns but they aren't out there killing each other.

I dont know the exact statistics, but I can assure you there are murders in Canada. They have a much smaller population and most likely a proportionate murder rate. The same can probably be said for school-shootings such as in the movie. They have a smaller student body compared to the US.
I believe population size has a lot to do with it.

Well in my opinion i think canada has a less death rate ( from guns ) because america has weaker laws ( or where i come from ) Where i come from, you have to have the possission of the gun and proof of you firing it. Then they give you a minimum of 5 years, BUT THEY NEVER give you death...
Good documnetary though

yes there are muders in Canada...if I rememebr correctly about 300 a year and how many in America over 11,000. In one city there were no murders for 20 yrs and whom committed this murder, a man from detroit. This movie is amazing It should be shown to everyone. You truly don't have a grasp on your country until you see this. I would hate to quote and quote this movie so I won't go see it and come back and try to argue any point against what is said.
