Game 7
RedSox versus the Yankees
Game 7
World Series at stake
Growing up in that region, for me this is a huge event. Even for those outside of the area it is a contest that deserves attention, if only for the disparity. Both clubs have long and storied histories. However one has a history of triumph while the other one of sorrow and heartbreak.
One team has a history of last minute heroics that steal the victory from the jaws of certain defeat while the other has only memories of mind numbing mistakes.
The Yankees are the perennial Winners. The names of their giants are many and the great moments of sports in America often have Yankee names attached to them.
Ruth, Dimaggio, Maris, Yogi Berra, Mantle.
The Yankees have the money and the glitz. They are probably hands down the most hated francise in baseball history. The RedSox probably only second to the Cubs for scorn as the almost perfect Losers.

The Red Sox, definitely. Yankees suck, and as I heard one sports pundit put it; the Yankees buy the best team, why don't they just buy the world series trophy and be done with it?
And Curt Schilling ROCKS! What a stud! 7 innings on an ankle held together with what amounts to bubble gum and baling wire. YAH! You da man!
Did I mention Yankees
suck?
Go Sox!
Oh, man I had to add this:

Go RedSox! History has already been made yesterday, let's go for the jugular tonight!
A-Rod - what a cheat! It's OK to do something like that in a heat of a game, but protest the CORRECT call and pretend he is outraged - wow. Didn't expect this one from the team which is supposed to be oozing class.
The problem is, my wife is a commited Yankee fan

I want anyone to win but the Yankees, just because I'm tired of seeing them win. In this case, I think it would also be much more rewarding for a team that hasn't won a series in decades to come away the victor. I want it to be deserved not given away, but I'd like the Red Sox to win. Because let's face it, if the Yankees win it'll be news for one day and outside of Yankees fans no one is going to care. If the Red Sox win, I imagine we'll still be talking about it weeks from now.
Actually, I'd be up for changing the way the league works. I happened to be on business in the UK for close to a month and got the opportunity to watch an English Football match while I was there. One of the unique and interesting things about how their league is setup is the concept of divisions which are based on your ability and record. They have 4 professional leagues with the premier league containing teams like Manchester United and the bottom league containing random town clubs that aren't so good. But the interesting thing is that every year the members of the leagues change depending on your record. That ensures that each league is always competitive, even if overall your team couldn't hold first place.
I personally think this is brilliant because it ensures that whatever game you watch, it is going to be competitive and interesting. Applied to baseball, who can't predict that the Detroit Tigers are going to lose to virtually any team they play? It just isn't that exciting. But if they were always playing teams of equivalent skill and ability, the games would be interesting.
But, if I were a betting man I'd put my money on the Yankees, money can't buy a finer team.

Jeter has lost his muster. Derek Jeter will CRY HIMSELF TO SLEEP TONIGHT.
Jeter is not even the best SS playing tonight. Lowe is starting tonight for the SOX, and the most over-rated SS is batting .167 lifetime against him. If you Yanks fans are hanging your hat on Jeter, then I will feel sorry for you as I watch tonight.
How do you break a curse? You do something that has never been done before. You come back from 3 down and send the Yanks packing.
Boston has NOTHING to lose tonight. The Yanks have their backs up against the wall and A-Rod has proven over his career that he cannot handle pressure. He has never been on a winning team, but he does get close a lot. A-Rod is a thorn to every team he has played on, just ask a fan in Seattle.
The SOX will WIN tonight and prove that victory cannot be bought. It will be the sweetest thing in the world when it happens, and if the SOX don't do it, either National league team can and will.
There is nothing better in sports than watching a Yankee fan cry. Bust out the hankies yankees. Tonight history will be made.
God bless America and the simple things in life that we enjoy and argue about. Ain't this a great time of the year?

I gotta go with Boston.
They tied it up while three down and you can't dismiss that as luck. They beat the Yankees when in my opinion, the Yankees are playing great baseball. Unfortunately, their pitching isn't doing as well.
Even if you have no dog in this fight, this is definitely one of the best series I've ever seen played. This is baseball at it's best and the reason I'm a huge baseball fan even if we don't have any professional teams in Cincinnati (the Reds are a AAA team at best, and the Bungles couldn't beat a good high school team).
I agree Jeter isn't even the best shortstop in the series, because the best shortstop in the series is next to him at third base. Anybody that doesn't think A-rod isn't the real deal should get with Vanna and buy a clue for $1000. He's a 5 tool player, but he's not perfect. When he's not perfect, everybody is down on him and thinks he sucks.
But he changes the dynamics of the game just by being there. They pitch to him differently because he can change the game with one swing of the bat. His defense and range at the corner is basically unmatched.
But good pitching beats good batting. And that's why it's Boston in 7. The curse will finally be lifted and Boston can start just blaming themselves if they can't get it done again for another 76 years.

As usual, I agree with CubeJockey this time on 2 points.
1 - Anybody but the Yankees! If if it's not my (white) sox, I'm rooting for the Red Sox. This series has been so much fun I almost forgot about Chicago's pitiful 2 teams. Schilling was brilliant.
2 - The English premiership is a great idea. I was arguing for this to come to baseball while I was living in the UK. Send the worst 2 teams down every year, bring the best 2 minor-league teams up to the majors - would make the end of the year very interesting for a lot of folks, and would give minor league clubs an incentive to spend on players. Probably a good idea for the NHL as well.

It's nice to know that money

I think that this victory might almost be more important to Red Sox fans than a world series. Great game to watch, stupid to put Pedro in, that was probably the one moment Sox fans felt it slipping away, after he was taken out, all it took was another home run to shut down the Yankees and get the Sox fans riled up again.
Still I don't think a single Red Sox fan was really comfortable until they saw that last out come in. We've been too close before and lost it, and while I wasn't particularly worried about the Yankees pitching at all for the game, the Yankee batters can definitely rack up 7 runs in an inning if they get in the groove.
With regards to the quote above, an article in the New York Times this morning (sorry don't have the link) suggests that not only can money not guarantee the championship, it can lock you into your players and limit your options for making changes. It looks like there's going to be some difficult choices at the Yankee clubhouse. When trading some of the best players in the league is going to cost you a mininum dollar amount that is in the millions, if not tens of millions, in buying out their contracts, there is something wrong.
Trading Torre would be a huge mistake IMO. First off, he's a great manager, that he had no pitching to work with this season was not really his fault, and he STILL got the team to the playoffs, second buying out that contract will cost a pretty penny, and third, he'll have a new job before the ink is dry on the buy-out check, and next year the Yankees will be facing a team he puts together. On top of that, he is the one member of the Yankee squad that most people respect and like.

While I definetly hate the way this turned out, Admit all you Yankee haters, this wouldn't have been so sweet if it wasn't for the Yankees losing BIG to the luckless hapless Century- long- Losers from Boston.
Most of you got your rocks off watching the Yankees humbled severly.
For all your cries about "Money can't buy yadda yadda yadda" it always comes down to envy. The Yankees win. They often dominate. They come from behind to snatch away a victory more than any other team in any sport.
They are also the perfect villians for victories such as Bostons, or the Marlins.
But while the D-backs are a memory, as are the Marlins, we'll be back next year.
The Yankees need Steinbrenner to remeber that money doesn't build a team and you need players that can be a team. Too many names to list are gone from when this current version of the Bombers was really powerful. They are a bunch of pieces with no cohesion.
But again they will rebuild and be back.
As for A Rod--dump him
picking up Pedro out of free agancy would be stupid
