Secretary-General of the Egyptian Labor Party:
"Those Who Bomb Fallujah Cannot Prevent Me from Bombing Los Angeles"
QUOTE
"The violence is currently directed at the occupation. This is legitimate violence. This is Jihad against occupiers. 99% of the violent operations target the foreign occupation of the Arab and Islamic nation.
...
"We are the weak ones. They make demands on us that don't exist in international law. There must be reciprocity. If your city is being bombed… Those who bomb Fallujah cannot prevent me from bombing Los Angeles. Why Fallujah? Why do we always feel inferior to them? What is the meaning of this inferiority complex? If we had missiles we should have bombed Los Angeles or any other city until they stopped bombing Fallujah, Samarra, and Ramadi."

This comes in the wake of Cheney's speech Carol, Ohio:
Cheney: Terrorists May Bomb US Cities
QUOTE
"The biggest threat we face now as a nation is the possibility of terrorists ending up in the middle of one of our cities with deadlier weapons than have ever before been used against us - biological agents or a nuclear weapon or a chemical weapon of some kind to be able to threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans," Cheney said.

"That's the ultimate threat. For us to have a strategy that's capable of defeating that threat, you've got to get your mind around that concept," Cheney said.

With this odd battle of words let's debate:
  1. Is this a threat? Is Egypt capable and willing to commit to an attack on US soil? Or is this just another scare tactic?
  2. Cheney claims that Kerry can not handle a terrorist attack on US soil. Is this true or is Cheney playing to the crowd? If Cheney is playing, what has Kerry said or written in a policy that makes you feel different.
  3. Is America prepared for such an attack on the US soil?

This sounds like a bonafide point made by an Arab man who is tired of seeing western powers fighting wars in the middle east to me. As an Egyptian, he's had every one from the French, the Germans, the British, the Israeli's and the Americans driving armies through his region, and in all that time, how many times did Egypt invade a western nation?

I doubt Egypt is powerful enough to actually bomb LA, in fact I doubt whether or not the Egyptian government would really contemplate such an action since they must understand the backlash that would immedietly follow.

But I have to say that this man, is not saying anything that does not resonate right across the world. I think, just about every human being old enough to know the history of the last one hundred years is now regarding the USA with anxious and indignant (or more often than not, terrified) eyes

Cheney is scaremongering which is what he alwasy does.

Let see 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973. Sounds like a declaration of war, maybe the Egyptian government will do something about and then again maybe pigs will fly soon too.

As capable as any group of terrorists. More capable since the US trained their military

Unknown quantity, though whomever sits in the White House would respond, just how is the unknown.
