Assuming we have a clear winner on November 2, I'll probably take the bumper stickers off my car and pull up my yard sign. I think I'll frame the yard sign and hang it up in my house.

If Kerry wins, then rebalancing the Texas Congressional delegation and state offices with more Democrats will become my political priority. I don't want to delay trying to undo the damage caused by DeLay. mad.gif In the unfortunate event Kerry loses, then the 2008 presidential race as well as the 2006 midterm elections become important. In that senario my favorites for 2008 include Hillary Clinton, Barack OBama and John Edwards.

BTW: I'm having my computer upgraded to an Athlon 64 thumbsup.gif bit system next week, so I'll be gone for a few days following the election.

What Will You Do With All Your Free Time, After the Election?

Nothing will change for me. Assuming President Bush is re-elected or Senator Kerry unseats him, politics in America will still be the hopelessly lost cause as it has always been and I will continue to post about it and fight against it, equally irritating those on the right and those on the left. thumbsup.gif

In the event that a third party actually wins the election then you all will receive an invitation to my funeral as I will have died of a joy induced heart attack. cool.gif

Well, I suppose that means I might actually get something done at work for a change whistling.gif

I don't think much changes for me as far as AD goes, there are so many things to discuss other than the election, but it has all gotten shoved under the rug for the past few months. When the dust settles, America will still have some serious problems ermm.gif

I have plenty of causes I work with here in San Francisco, so I'll probably return to focusing on those after the election. I am also planning on getting heavily involved with our next mayoral election, mainly for networking purposes. I am kicking around ideas for a few non-profits and I'm going to need big donors thumbsup.gif

What Will You Do With All Your Free Time, After the Election?

During my working years, I would ask retirees what they were doing with their spare time. The response never changed.

QUOTE(Typical Retiree)
I don't have any spare time. When I do get a break, I wonder how I ever managed to find time to hold down a job.

There are leaves to rake.

There will be snow to shovel soon.

PE will be asking my opinion about a thread, my opinion of her response, her opinion of my response, my opinion of (insert name)'s response...

I will spend more time than my family likes reading the paper and solving crossword puzzles.

The garage has needed to be cleaned out since we moved in. I have on occasion parked the car inside, but there is no room to do that at the moment.
I've misplaced my notes on the book I meant to write...

If John Kerry is elected, perhaps I'll learn to sleep through the night and cheerfully wake up in the morning. (Nah... I'm a confirmed night owl!)

and

if George "W stands for, We will try again to amend the Constitution." Bush is somehow re-elected, I suspect that I will be working overtime to prevent his election to a third term.
AuthorMusician
I've already turned back to a non-political path. Bless early voting! On Friday, I'll be listening to Joyce Carol Oates talk and get her new book, Falls, signed.

Ah, normal life. It's great.

But, AD will always be part of my routine. And politics will always be a subject of attention, just not as much.

In 2008, watch out for Colorado Repub guv Bill Owens. You'll probably be seeing that name in the race.

Don't forget Congressional elections in 2006 -- yet another chance to take our country back. Don't think Howard Dean is done shaking things up, waaaahooozie!

You come up with the best discussion BoF. For me, I'll just keep working and perhaps gear up for a local run in two years. smile.gif I'll keep posting, but not at a frenetic pace until summer.

If Kerry wins I will wait and see. If Kerry starts performing like Bush (which has to be doubtful) I will become an independant again and start slamming Kerry much as I do Bush.

If Bush wins I will become more vigorous in my opposition to him as I hope all democrats do. A message needs to be sent that if Bush wins this country will not unify but that people on the left will become a bigger and bolder opposition. I do not support a Bush presidency and I think it would almost be worth it to completely rip apart the nation just to make that evident. This has nothing to do with being a sore loser this has everything to do with a Bush I see as a radical and a danger to humanity. If Bush wins the next 4 years of my life will be dedicated to ripping his presidency. If Bush touches abortion he could accomplish that on his onw though. In short no healing if Bush wins for me. If people want a culture war in the US I am a loyal liberal soldier and I will fight the neo-con movement to the death.

I am a liberal. I am very liberal. So, after the election, I will go back to what I do normally, as a liberal:

I will be killing and eating little babies.

I will be having homosexual relations with Arab terrorists.

I will be working to raise everyone's taxes to 150%.

I will be destroying crucifixes.

It's gonna be so much fun! devil.gif

Wow Quark, be careful. Everyone needs down time. You should take a break from all that "Libation" and have a beer or something. wink.gif

Myself I've decided to invest time in the new "Radical Center" wave of political thinking. I am hoping to be able to put some time into the 3rd Party and try to help develop a centrist platform. I would like to invest some time at The Centrist Coalition as well to help promote moderate solutions. I just came across the Centrist Reform Party they might be interesting to work with. I would also like to look into working with the New America Foundation.

And yes, I ill stop and have a beer once in awhile too cool.gif

After the election, no matter who wins, I'll just try and talk up the Libertarian Party as much as I can.
Both major candidates are Republicrats. Neither will downsize government, both will continue to steal my money and call it Social Security, neither will do anything to simplify the byzantine tax code, and they both have the same plan for Iraq.

In short, I'll be disgruntled no matter which candidate wins, Itchy or Scratchy.

But in a few short years, I'll be out of uniform and able to run for office.......

The results of the election have certainly changed my mind a little bit on what I intend to do now that the dust has settled. The last post I wrote was written with the assumption of a Kerry victory, well that didn't happen - that's life I suppose.

I still intend to do all of the things I mentioned, but I have also run across an idea I intend to devote a lot of time to in the coming weeks. I'm calling it Buying America Blue and I wrote a little bit about the concept, but the idea originated from Daily Kos and all of the discussion is going on there (link inside). I'd encourage anyone that is interested in the concept to head over there and get involved.

In some ways, I'm happy Bush won. I have never been motivated to follow up on things as I have for politics. I was afraid I might leaves these boards if Kerry won, because politics would take on that drool repetitiveness I was used to hearing about in the Clinton years. I only wish there were many more social conservatives on these boards. Judging by the amount of evangelical sites I've visited to consider their take on moral absolutism, there should be millions about.

I need to find a job that will pay the bills. I've been unemployed for over a year, after working three years at a Wal-Mart and finally reaching $8.00 an hour, only to have $1.00 removed when I left third shift to work first shift. We weren't making it, and my daughter's grades were suffering.

I understand the WESCO store is hiring (a gasoline/convenience store chain).

Also, I want to go back to school to get a degree in education. My strengths are in French, English and History. At this point, though, I don't know if we'll be able to swing it. The University of Phoenix charges $400 per credit hour (online), and they don't have a bachelor's degree in education. So I'll have to check the local universities for tuition costs.
Juber3
Ill do my normal things and go around buildings in cleveland observing flags and if they are tattered write the company pointing out the United Flag Code. Im probley the only guy that does that in the USA. Well got to go. I have to write to Manors

When I started this thread I never envisioned the series of foul balls over the next few days.

I am disappointed, to put it mildly, that Bush won.

I have upgraded my computer and had work done on my car. There were complications with both issues, but finally I'm back on line.

There are several threads here I plan to address, but it will be a slow process.

I suppose politically, the mid-term elections in 2006 have to command attention.
Izdaari
Well, really this election season didn't occupy that much of my attention. It was just another big news story, though I'm happy it turned out the way it did. I'll continue working, eating and sleeping the same as before. My social life continues as before. And I remain an avid reader and PC gamer. Currently I'm reading David Drake's Demon Queen, second in his Lord of the Isles series, and trying to finish the maasive (and even more so with mods and expansions applied) Baldur's Gate II. And then I'll return to Star Wars Galaxies now that the space expansion has been released.
Izdaari
Correction, Queen of Demons is the title.

I've been playing the World of Warcraft Open Beta and I love it. It'll be released later this month and will probably be the next Izzy obsession.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I have a 26 level undead priest on test server 14. Being in college, I can skip class to play!

Probably occupies most of my time during the day.
Lesly
Uh oh we're coming out of the woodworks. I've been playing on Test 3, have a level 18 night elf druid. It's a fantastic MMORPG visually and conceptually. You can get a lot done without feeling like you have to play 8 hours straight. My only complaint is the lag. Hope to fix that with a new computer for Christmas. santa.gif
BoF
I think I'm suffering from post-election stress disorder. crying.gif

I've been playing WoW on Test 34 and 35, the West and East Coast RP servers, respectively. I don't do PvP but I love RP.

Mainly I've been trying out different races, classes and professions, and learning my way around the world.

I've done Humans, Gnomes, Night Elves, Orcs and Trolls so far, and Warlock, Rogue, Warrior, Mage and Hunter. All have been fun, so it'll be hard to decide what to go with on release. Still haven't tried Shaman, Paladin or Priest, but I'll get to them.

Running an Athlon XP 1800+, 512mb RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb, Win XP, 1.5M DSL. No lag at all normally, and when there is, it seems to be server side. I'm planning to upgrade CPU and RAM, but it doesn't really seem like it'll be necessary for this game. The hardware requirements are really low, much less than EQ2.

Still an interesting topic so I wanted to respond and hopefully bump it up for new folks to respond to.

I finally have something to show for my efforts, have a Blue Christmas this year! It has been taking up a lot of my time (and will continue to do so), but I should be able to be more active on AD again smile.gif
Izdaari
My prediction was accurate. WoW is the current Izzy obsession. If anyone else is playing I can be found on Silver Hand (Pacific RP) as Izdaari, 28th level Human Rogue. Best MMORPG eveh IMO. It focuses on the one factor that most of the others neglect: the fun.

One thing I've been able to do since I'm not spending all my time focusing on the election or debating it here is I went to the library and actually checked out some books and music.

Finally, I get a chance to read Richard Clarke's Against All Enemies! But no, I won't be reading Unfit For Command. Kind of seems irrelevant now don't you think?

I got a cheap thrill while I was at the library. I was thumbing through this book about African-Americans portrayals in the comics and lo, and behold, the author referenced an article I had written about the very subject waaaay back in 1993. There was only one small problem. The jerk spelled my last name wrong! So much for the ego-stroke! crying.gif

I'm also writing a end-of-the-year column for the paper, but I loathe "Top 10" lists. They're so contrived and cliched. So, in this season of happiness and giving I'm going to write something I've titled, "Something To Offend Everyone" and I'm just gonna go ballistic on some of the knuckleheads who have been naughty and not very nice. Ken Blackwell, come on down!

Meanwhile, I've enjoyed the respite from the election. It took a toll on everyone, winners and losers.
