Now that the election is almost upon us I figured we've become completely saturated with political slogans from every group who ever tried to get the vote out. With that in mind I thought it might be fun to share a funny, stupid, silly, really good/bad, clever or witty, political slogan you've heard.

I'll start things off with P. Diddy's "Vote or Die" slogan. I think it's pretty dumb, I mean, what does it mean anyway? If I don't vote should I watch my back? I know he's pretty hard, guess I'll have to get my posse and throw down with him.

NOTE: Please don't get carried away with this and start bashing Bush/Kerry. You can do that on about a thousand other threads This is just for fun, so share your slogan and why you think it is what it is, and don't take anything too seriously. smile.gif

I think the most effective political slogan I've ever heard was in the 7th grade class elections. Ted Hume, the class clown set up signs all over the school announcing his candidacy for class prez. Most of the signs said "Peace Through Power" and had a picture of a nuclear explosion. He won by a landslide before he was disqualified. Needless to say, the best option is to play into the fancies of your constituents.

In fact, Peace Through Power might be a great slogan for the Bush Campaign. hmmm.gif

My all time favorite was a billboard I used to pass, I believe it was in Isabella County. The candidates last name was Lawless, and all of his advertising held the same simple message:

Lawless for Sheriff!

Douglas Kelley of Ann Arbor, Michigan has a collection of political memorabilia. I remember the one quoted below. It got national headlines.

QUOTE
One eye-catching relic, a poster of a pregnant African-American woman wearing a "Nixon's the One" button, captures the era's "Laugh-In"-style lacerating humor.

Edited to include:

The late John Tower's--Texas' first Republican Senator since reconstruction-- name belied his physical stature. In one of his campaigns he used the slogan "Texas Needs a Tower in the Senate."

South park did the best send up ever of P-diddy's "Vote or Die"- "What does that mean" asks one kid- "What the F do you think it means" Says P-diddy- and soon the guns come out, and then they kill all the PETA poeple. Best election comedy next to the Daily show I have ever seen. I won't even tell you what the candidates names were, this is a family friendly site LOL thumbsup.gif

Haven't noticed slogans this season, or anything really that stuck in my mind.

But here's a few that I'd have liked to have seen:

Bush/Halliburton '04

JFK Again - This Time He's A Slimmer Target

Bush Really Knows Terror

Two Johns In Every Pot

Rite War, Write Time, Riot Place

Kerry Is NOT Bush (today)

Blink and Sneer '04

Hair! Gimme A Prez With Hair!

[It's probably a good time to stop.]

There was one that really annoyed me:

"Don't be a girly-man: Vote Republican."

I like men who are "feminine" and women who are "masculine," so this appeal to the lowest possible sort of macho posturing really made me upset.

It appeals to manly men and the women you like them, which is a significant portion of the population, apparently.
