Happy Birthday United States Marine Corps!!!

This is a most hallowed day for the Corps, and they celebrate its sanctity far and away more than the other services do their own, to my Army shame..........

Marines....I salute you (I know we have a couple here at AD).
You make Chesty proud day in and day out.

Semper Fidelis!

Is it that time of year already??? Dang....I still don't own any dress blues to celebrate. Not that it'd matter because I'd never fit in them anymore... laugh.gif

I served in the USMC at New River Air Station in Jacksonville N.C in squadron HML-167 when I wasn't on Med cruises (one 6 month cruise on the USS Iwo Jima and one 6 month cruise on the USS Inchon - can't remember the squadrons) . The Marines are one of those things that sucked major butt, but after you got out, you were pretty proud of basically, surviving it. Hell, I had doubts whether I would survive the 13 weeks I did in Parris Island.

I made a lot of friends, a few life long friends, and lost a few friends to conflict (George Holmes and Dewey Johnson during the Iran hostage rescue attempt) and aircraft accidents. But when I left the Marines, I was a much better person. Considering I had a choice of jail time or the Marines, I suppose I had nowhere to go but up... devil.gif

Anyhow, Happy Birthday to my fellow jarhead-in-arms and I'm glad it's not me doing bends and thrusts anymore (an inside Marine joke) thumbsup.gif

You know, OS....all of the Marines I've worked with have gladly admitted that they were in the Department of the Navy.....

They just said they were in the MEN's Department........... tongue.gif

Hmmmmmmm

A study by Guilford and Smith in 1959 revealed that men were more tolerant of colorless atmospheres than women. With that in mind, Guilford and Smith deduced that women might be more color-conscious. Good observation.

Navy: White, Black (technically Navy Blue) and a whole lot of Grey.

Marines: Green coordinated with more green and pleasantly accented with even more green. This theme is frequently changed to fashionably coordinate the Marine with the environment. Tan in the desert for example.

Of course, my uniforms follow the green, tan etc standard. As a Seabee, I am closer to a Marine then a Sailor anyway. thumbsup.gif

Man...that one was good.....REAL good.... thumbsup.gif

But yeah, I have to admit, we couldn't really go anywhere on our own. We always needed a squid to get us there.
