I have two cat's and they are sisters. I'm really hoping they aren't pregnant again. At the same time again. Sigh.

I have my eye out for a chihuahua. I had one for seven years and I need another one. Here is a pic of my dream dog...but I'm willing to settle for something similar. This one is $500.00 and way above my budget....darn it...I can't attach a pic. sad.gif

I have two cats. They belonged to my next door neighbors, but decided they like living with me better. No kids or dogs. tongue.gif

One lives here full time and never goes back to her old home. The other one comes every day or so to eat and take a snooze.

Madtown
Eeyore
An 8 year old Jack Russel Terrier that is the boss of me named Trouble
A two year-old blue heeler/border collie mix named Clara
A Tomkitten that is caramel and cream colored and a true terror named Twix
A stray adult beautiful fluffy tiger cat that was declawed named Big Kitty
and one fish named bubbles that was a result of a gag wedding present that boomaranged on me. I give anybody that invites me to their wedding a useless glass head from Pier One (oddly every store in the country keeps them in stock and he since the 1980s)
It is the true test for a newlywed male to find a place to display this object in public.

This friend found a stand, turned it upside down, filled it with rocks and a fish and gave it to me as a housewarming present.
Danya
I had fish tanks for years...I plan to again one day. They are great. I suggest you upgrade Eeyore. tongue.gif
Eeyore
Maybe you would like to downgrade, I could fed-ex you the fish in head set up. I may become quite trendy. wink.gif

Funny you should start this topic, Danya.

Mike and I are currently trying to figure out if we are ready to take in our third cat (yipes!).

Two nights ago, Mike was walking home from the store and saw this cute kitten by an abandoned house. It was really sweet and let him pet it. Mike came and got me & brought me to the kitten and he was sweet. In fact, he's probably the coolest kitten I've ever seen.

So we've gotten him to follow us home and hang out in our backyard. That food we left out spoke volumes to his little self, I'm sure. Now the questions are:

1) Will our other two cats like him? I don't think he'll have a problem adjusting. I also think my older male cat (Jerry Garcia) will either like him a lot the way he likes my second cat (Sugaree) or will be indifferent to him. It's Sugaree I'm worried about. She's your typical high-strung princess cat. She's still pretty young (2) and has recently been spayed (I know I did it late), so she's got that going for her. She's not a fraidy-cat and likes people. She just doesn't like to be touched much by anyone but Mike, Jerry or I. I don't know what she would do with someone "below" her in the hierarchy.

2) Can we afford it? It sucks it is so expensive to take in a stray off the streets. The neutering being expensive I understand. The vet is, afterall, slicing up my boy. The shots shouldn't be so expensive. I wonder how much they cost wholesale. I get the idea there is a huge mark up (even at the Pet-Smart vet Saturdays) on those chemicals wink.gif

So c'mon. Encourage me. I'm a sap and I know it; I just need a little shove. laugh.gif
Danya
If he's the coolest cat you've ever seen you must take him home and keep him.

And name him Stewart. happy.gif

And I'll send you my address if you want to send me your fish Eeyore. wink2.gif

I have two pugs, pretentiously named Nietzsche and Kafka tongue.gif, and they are both REALLY naughty and REALLY hyper. I love them no matter how many pairs of my socks they eat. wink.gif I also have two leapord geckos called Set and Ra.

Here's Nietzsche, the youngest pug.:

ADORABLE...I was just talking about how I wanted a pug like the one on Men In Black 2.

Actually, before I decided on a chihuahua the last time I was weighing the option of a pug instead. But I'm pretty attached to the breed now and prolly can't change.

Jaime - Try this site for the vaccinations:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/

It is run by two vetrinarians, and I have found a lot of things for really good prices. They also sell vaccinations, if you feel comfortable giving them.

Oh man, pugs are a lot of work. I have a lot of time, so it's okay, but they crave attention, and they are incredibly hyperactive. I wouldn't trade them in for the world, but they aren't for everyone. It makes me sad, because a lot of people who saw Men in Black are going to get pugs, and then they aren't going to know what to do with them, because they are so needy.

I don't know much about Chihuahuas, but I think they are darling little dogs. They are so tiny!
Madtown
Jaime, I definitely think you should adopt the little kitty. After all, he's all ready in your back yard and think of his mental health if you reject him now. He will NEVER be able to trust again and it will be all your fault. sad.gif Can you live with that? You have no choice. tongue.gif

Our current cats, in two separate posts.

Jerry Garcia is 4, and is a lean 18 pounds. He used to be over 20 lbs, but two years of dieting has allowed him to lose a tenth of his body weight. Imagine that!

He's got long hair, likes to be stretched, and bites your chin if he likes you.

Mike
Mike
And here is Sugaree. She is the ultimate priss. Scratch her neck the wrong way and she'll hiss and growl like you were killing her. She does not play well with others.

Mike
Jaime
IT'S OFFICIAL!!!!

Mike & I decided to go ahead and get the kitty. Our vet has been kind enough to allow us to break up the payments so that won't be an issue.

Now it's just a matter of slowly breaking him in to the home. We've done this once with Sugaree so I'm confident it will work out, although it may take some time - which we have biggrin.gif

The next step is to come up with a name...

(We'll post pics once we take some)

I have a putty tat..... Chloe

I was out smoking on the porch one night, and up she walks...about 4 months old. She rubs on my leg and starts purring. I pick her up, and she licks my hand as I pet her.

I took her inside, and my then wife and I fall in love with her.

She was the pet of our next door neighbor, who was quite abusive. They stopped getting along (neighbor and the cat) smile.gif and they eventually kicked her out of the house. No kitten should be on her own at 4 months :/

Chloe loves people. She has never bit, scratched or done anything that could be construed as even remotely mean...to anyone for anything.

I don't have a pic of her, maybe now is a good time to take one....

Jaime, glad you and Mike decided to take him in. smile.gif

My cat's are long haired too. One is a tiger striped grey white and black with a white bib (her name is Diamond). And the other one is all grey with a white nose and paws (her name is Dusty).

And man, can they hunt! They are brutal to the pidgeons in our hood. cool.gif

Here at last is my dream dog. He is way too expensive but I can still dream. wink2.gif

Ranting a little bit, our neighbors have a dog that is chained outside and is not fixed (female) She had a litter of puppies over the summer. They were gorgeous, looked like about 90% Black Lab. Anyway, I asked one of our other neighbors what happened to the puppies and he said the owner just took them all to the pound. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif Then I asked if he got her spayed, he said no. mad.gif mad.gif Stuff like that makes me so angry. Off my rant now, we have a 6 month old Black Lab named Kelsea and Lab Beagle mix named Cheyenne. We had a chocolate lab named Madison (she is in the picture with me on the forum member's picture thread) and she was hit by a car speeding down our street last year. I still can't believe I held myself down and did not get arrested for assault. The person was doing like 55mph down our 25mph street and Madison was crossing our driveway to say high to our neighbor and, well you can imagine. We don't have any kids yet so it was like losing a child. That is why we got Kelsea, to try and fill the void a little bit. She was from a lab rescue shelter.

Jaime, taking in strays is great, but it always seems there are so many. We can only help one a time though.
How do you post pictures here? I have some good ones of our "kids."

I have mentioned my pets in previous posts, but they are so darn cool that I will mention them again. I have two cats both of them are boys. The black and white one is named William and the orange stiped one in named Carl. Jaime, as you know, I am a strong believer in giving pets human names. So I would chose a cool human name for your new little girl, maybe the first name of a favorite female historical figure. . .I know you are into history and such. Just an idea. . .

ph34r.gif I just love that smilie. . .can't help it

Danya
I've decided my chihuahua (or whatever little dog I end up with) will be named Georgie.

How's that for a human name, Kisov? I think it's cute. But I may change the spelling if the pup is a girl. cool.gif
Kisov
Sounds good, Danya. I think giving pets human names makes them more like children/roomates then pets. . .and I find that comforting. happy.gif

I am new so I may as well jump in and get to know everyone (or have them get to know me). My wife and I seem to adopt our family members pets. A few years ago we bought a house and took in my mom's cats. They are Brother and sister pure white semi long hair. Kacee is the little girl (princess attitude) and Casper is the 18 lb friendly ghost who has been intently watching our newest family member our Beta Fish Sam who seems to love to tease Casper by swimming vigorously around the tank whenever Casper is near. Sam doesn't do this with Kacee, just Casper. We also took in my little brother's 11 year old black lab Scooter. He is the most intelligent and sensitive dog I know. I can still teach that old dog new tricks and he hates it when I climb ladders. He will sit at the base and cry until I climb down and then he goes on his merry way. My wife and I have let our family know that they are not to get any more animals as we don't have any more space. I would like to include a pic of the cats but will have to figure it out soon.

Wow - those cats look remarkably like DP himself. I guess it's one of those pet and owner things.

My partner and I have three cats - Subaru and Toyota (who are half pixie bob, though only Subaru has the cool tail, and half brown tiger and God knows what else), a brother and sister - and Shadow Cat, who is their incestuous offspring. Shadow is way cool - he is the blackest cat I've ever seen in my life - black nose, black lips, black footpads, and a black, black, black, shiny, black, silky black coat. He's also got orange eyes.

Our housemates have a golden retriever called Bailey, who loves cats, a Japanese chin (an even more grotesque breed than pugs - and just as hyper) called Bart, who is a real curmudgeon, and a placid orange cat called Skippy (or The Skipster). They also have four cats that live outside full time (Mona, Amber, Sam, and Nuzzlemug).

We just unloaded the final kitten from Toyota's last litter (formerly Kodak, Xerox, Racer, Bumpkin, Pedro, and Inez). We also have an aquarium, but everything in it died except the coral. I want to replace the stones with clear glass beads and fill it with transparent breeds of fish - eventually. We also used to have cockatiels, iguanas, and a tarantula, but I think we're sticking to mammals for now. What I really want is a pair of Reeve's muntjacs (or "barking deer") which are less than two feet high and are adorable.

We don't have any photos of the current cats scanned, so here's a picture of some muntjacs. smile.gif

Eek. I find that mildly disconcerting. We tend to use brand names (Kodak and Xerox) or more just sorta descriptive things (Racer and Shadow). The only "human" exceptions I can think of are Pedro and Inez - but that was a reference to the mannequins at the Alamo in PeeWee's Big Adventure. The roomies, obviously, go with the anthropomorphic thing (Bart, Mona, Sam - *yawn*).

Anyway, I'm glad you decided to keep the kitten. I have no advice regarding names.
Cyan
Danya, that puppy is REALLY cute. biggrin.gif
Mike
So here's the new kitty. Still no name...
Danya
She has almost the same markings as my grey cat Dusty. Only all dark grey where the black is on your cat.

I would try to help with the names but I don't know many Greatful Dead Titles. huh.gif

Ah, come on, what about "Wharf Rat" or "China Cat Sunflower?" biggrin.gif

We have two dogs. Gemini is 14 years old and fat. She is a highly skilled sleeper and farter. She snores and stinks, usually at the same time.

Maggie is a "rez dog." We picked her up as a stray puppy down on the Navajo rez. She's energetic and loves to chase waves at the beach.

MIA: Freckles, the border collie mix, disappeared in Arizona. She jumped the fence and never returned. I am sure she was either killed or captured to become a sheep herder (which is what I prefer to believe). A lot of Navajos use dogs to mind their sheep herds, and Freckles was a born herder. Once, when we lived on a small farm in VA, she herded a bunch of the neighbor's cows through a hole in the fence and into our front yard... our neighbor threatened to shoot the dogs; we responded, fix the damn fence!

Two cats:
Ginger, our latest, a rez stray, found on Halloween night. Reverse tortoise shell. She's cute.

Dumbledore (can you tell we let our kids name our pets?!), a rez cat from AZ, he's cool, kills birds and lizards though.

MIA: Space Cat, now residing with my wife's parents, long story.

KIA: Brutus, Irie (one - eyed cat was run over)
Danya
Ummm....Dusty's prego so if anyone want's a kitten let me know. wink.gif
Wertz
No, thanks, Danya - Toyota's had two litters in the past eight months (for a grand total of thirteen kittens). wacko.gif

Stella Blue is at the vet as I type. We made sure we never have to deal with any unwanted kittens (we can barely afford this one blush.gif )

I went to the pound this weekend and found a Cairn terrier I am thinking of adopting.

It's a male...about 3 or 4 years old. He was licensed but had been there 10 days already. If he is still there tomorrow I can take him home. cool.gif

This is Effie. She is definitely an alpha cat (just ask her!) She was named for a very sweet character from the ballet La Sylphide - and she has surely lived up to that name.

When I found her at the pound over 12 years ago, she was scheduled to be killed in just a couple of hours. As lucky as she is that I was able to save her, I am luckier because I have had the pleasure of loving her all this time.

That little red heart on her collar has her name and address. My husband took the picture. If I had taken it, I would have straightened out her collar so the heart wouldn't have been off to the side. smile.gif

One 2year old Jack Russel named "Karly"- Excellent little dog.She never gets tired of playing. The only problem is, she never gets tired of playing...LOL

One snow white full blooded German Shepard named "Shadow"- Yes is really is all white. There were only a few of them in the USA when we got him. They are becoming more popular I understand however. Very intelligent and well behaved. He even tolerates the JRT pestering him all the time.

One Incredibly fun Quaker Parrot that took over the house. His name is Quincy he has a vocabulary of about 7 phrases and various single words. It is quite amusing to watch him talk to the JRT when she sits outside his cage.

Dog walks in room Quincy says "hello" Dog sits down and begins working out how it can get to the new recipient of Moms attention. Bird says "Whatcha doin huh?" Dog begins to pace in slow half circles looking for an angle. Bird says "bird bird bird ....bird is the word" "Whatcha doin huh?"....Dog gets nerve to put feet up on table that holds bird cage....bird screams "Danger danger will robinson danger danger" and squawks until someone comes to his rescue....LOL

This scenario plays out two or three times a week. The phrases vary in repetition and sequence but it is always the danger thing when the dog is too close.

Oh and we have one mid sized Ball Python named Prometheus- We both always wanted a snake when we were kids so right after we got married we bought one. He is getting old now and wont be with us much longer...sad.gif

Then of course my wife would say her most troublesome pet is a large 220 pound gorilla that still doesnt understand that his socks do not belong under the computer desk.

Danya, I don't mean to be critical on such a fun board, but if you are worried about your cats being pregnant, you really ought to spay and neuter. There is a huge over population problem in this country. I hope all is well with your kitties.

My girlfriend and I have an Australian Shepard named Cody, he's four years old and we adopted him from a humane society in Minesota a couple of years ago. We recently moved into a house and finally have a yard so we are thinking about getting a puppy in the next couple of months, more than likely from a shelter again. I think we need to wait until there is less than 2 ft of snow on the ground though. I'll post a pic of Cody as soon as I get home.

Also, I want to apologize for my last post here, I wasn't trying to spark a debate.
