Some of us are packing to travel somewhere for the holiday, some of us have already left, and the rest of us are stuck at work or school just waiting for the day to end so we can start our long weekend. laugh.gif

Thanksgiving is one of Mike and my favorite holidays. We spend it home and make a banquet sized meal that we spend the rest of the weekend eating. This year, we will be treated to a visit from Wertz. I can't wait to share Thanksgiving with him. There is little finer than sharing a great meal with people close to you.

So what will you be doing for this Thanksgiving?

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Have a great Turkey Day, everyone! mrsparkle.gif

My plans kind of fell through, so I think I will just make a little meal for myself and share it with my four-legged "family" and spend some time talking to my mom, who is in Colorado recovering from surgery.

Daffy you're welcome here.

My wife is in a frenzy. This is our first big Thanksgiving Dinner that we are hosting. It is modest but Mrs. Eeyore is having some special guests and wants to have everything turn out just so.

Wertz, Mike, and Jaime I hope the Georgia coast gives you a great America's Debate Thanksgiving.

The staples if the meal in these parts seem to be dressing (not stuffing) and a green bean casserole.

I have always enjoyed this holiday. I remember touch football games when I was younger. It seems I have never celebrated Thanksgiving twice in the same place looking back on it. One of my favorite Turkey days was a trip to Bend, Oregon.

Since I'm rambling, I think these are all of my Thanksgiving locations
danbury, CT East Brunswick, NJ; Pittsbugh, Mechanicsburgh, PA; Wilmington, DE; Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Santa Barbara, San Ramon, and Santa Rosa, Ca, Scottsdale, AZ; Bend, Oregon, Boca Raton, Fla (the year Flutie made his fantastic toss for BC); Alpharetta, GA; Grand Prairie, Southlake, and Lakeway, TX; Tuscaloosa, AL; Antioch, Nashville, Franklin, and Manchester TN.

That's my dose of TMI for the day.

Enjoy it all.
Hopefully the drives will be safe and the weather great.

I have a lot to be thankful for. wub.gif us.gif flowers.gif

Eeyore,

I believe strongly that big Thanksgivings ought to be done like the original, where everyone brings in some specialty dish. Make it into a pot luck! That way, no one person has to slave and worry about how things turn out. Maybe have one person assigned to do turkey.

Lydia's daughter has been taking on the brunt of family Thanksgiving, and she's into it. We aren't, so we cook up stuff from scratch and whatever we like. Turkey is too much! So this year it's a duck. I'll do sage dressing on the side just for grins, candied yams because -- just because, no marshmallows. Mashed taters, jarred gravy, and green beans with almonds. Apple pie too, from scratch.

My personal thanks is for having the ability to do this with someone who is very special and supportive. Also that we found each other, and that we live where we want, doing things we like. Thoughts and prayers will be to all those who won't be where they want or doing the things they like.

Wishing everyone a pleasant and safe holiday.
Christopher
Part of our family tradition is to go into the desert and go quadding. We bring along some rifles and do some shooting. hopefully this year thyere will be no trips to the emergency room. Gravity sux.
Then home to a rather large meal and the eventual turkey coma.
Ah pure bliss.
I have been fortunate enough to have gotten a work schedule where I shall have each coming holiday completely off.

Very Kool

My family still lives in the north east and I won't see them sad.gif I miss MOM
but she should be here just after my daughter Hannah Grace finally births in MArch.
My wife will be very THANKFUL for that.

My wife's family is very cool and I have definetly been blessed in regards to my extended family.

After the meal I shall challenge opponents to face their certain doom in some fighter plane combat on the XBox.

Everyone have a great holiday and please be safe.

Home for good and just in time for the holidays!! thumbsup.gif

It will be Thanksgiving with the In-laws again. Where everyone cooks something (other then me, trust me, that is for the best wink.gif ) and a GREAT time is had by all.

Most of my family traditions were lost when I went out on my own. Others just seemed to stop when certain relatives died. Still working on starting our own. But we have a few. Each Thanksgiving my wife, her siblings and I all draw lots for secret santa gifts for Christmas. We also tend to play board games. Though I loath board games ermm.gif there are some that I don't mind as much. My wife loves them and would much prefer that I participate (without winning cool.gif ) then go back home and get on the computer, which is my typical response to these games.

As a result, my Christmas and Aniversary Gift ideas for my wife has focused on games I would actually play that the whole family would like too. Gave her one early so we have it for thanksgiving, Trivial Pursuit, 20th year edition. The game only covers the last 20 years which should balance the odds between the crones and the children :-)

Thanksgiving is a great holiday. I didn't always like it, but these days, how can I not? I maybe poor, I may be without a voice in national politics, and I may miss some of the people who have left this earth. However, My wife is too good for me, my daughter is too much like me, we have a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, no overdue bills, my wonderful In-laws next door and all the great neighbors on the block. If only my Mom would move real close It would be perfect, but even with her far away I am living a dream everyday. How could I not be thankful??

flowers.gif Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!! flowers.gif

Use this day to change your focus from what you have-not to what you have, just for the day. wink.gif

So what will you be doing for this Thanksgiving?

We will continue our own family tradition of meeting Paladin Elspeth's brother in Port Huron, crossing the Blue Water Bridge into Canada together, and having our annual fish dinner at a restaurant called The Wharf.

I'm making Mattar Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, puris, Dal, rice, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. We shall have a real Indian feast!

The tribe here gives out free turkeys every Thanksgiving, one to each family here. They are big ones, too! I cooked ours up last week - I roasted it, we had stuffing and gravy and all that good stuff. I am using the leftover turkey for my "chicken" tikka.

This will be one of the first years that we will we be just our immediate family for Thanksgiving. I think it will be rather nice. My folks and my sister are flying out for Christmas this year.

Man, I can hardly wait! My mouth is watering just writing about the curries! I actually cooked them today, so they can simmer all day tomorrow, and I only have to make the dal, rice, and puris (the puffy fried bread).

A physician colleague of my wife's will be coming over for this fine meal.

Enjoy, everyone!

Happy Thanks giving to all of you. And thank you all for the debates smile.gif

When I get off work at 7am I'm headed Downtown for the Parade, then to my moms house for a nap and dinner, then to uptown for the our Holiday festival where they turn the festive lights on.

Poori? Thats sort of rolled thin and then deep fried. I think you thinking of Nan or Roti. hmmm.gif Its slightly amusing that your salivating over traditional Indian food for Thanksgiving and I'm doing the same for traditional American food, like mashed potatoes & gravy, Turkey & gravy, Biscuits & gravy........

I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving with my wife, here in Normandy. I must admit I've been 'contaminated' with this celebration since we got together! biggrin.gif

It will be the first time we celebrate it in France actually. Our very first time in 2001 was in Phoenix, AZ ; then, in 2002, I was working... and in 2003, we both were!

So, today is a first for us. biggrin.gif

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!
Paladin Elspeth
My brother (a bachelor) doesn't cook for more than one. That's why we enjoy eating deep-fried halibut fillets together in Canada on (American) Thanksgiving, then he comes over to our house for Christmas dinner. Our gathering is very small but we look forward to it.

We do have a lot to be thankful for. Part of what we are thankful for is this forum and the wonderful people who post here. wub.gif

God bless you all. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! flowers.gif

I forgot to say that French people don't celebrate Thanksgiving. When we tell them what we're doing, they say : "What is zis Sanksgiveeing?" Funny! biggrin.gif

Happy Thanksgiving!

We spend it with my mom and her husband, and his son and wife.
We usually play games like Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, Yahtzee,
and various card games. There is a really entertaining game called
"Apples to Apples." It's great fun.

Just wanted to give a little hint here.

Lydia thinks I get too maudlin on the holidays. Okay, very guilty. I like to cry. I like the tears of joy, of the human spirit, and here's a classical piece that if it does not raise a tear, you ain't human.

Canon in D by Pachelbel (I pronounce it Paco Bell).

It's his one greatist hit. It has a simple chord progression, D-A-Bm-F#m-G-D-G-A.

That's it! But the melody and far-ring around with it, just superb. My favorite CD is Pachelbel's Greates Hit (he had only one) (but it works!) -- bar code 9026-60712-2, so guess that makes the reference unique.

I like to cry tears of joy, of the depth of what we feel. Canon in D is the next thing that gets put on the guitar repertoire.

Anyway, if you need a good cry, one of tears that taste sweet, not bitter, this is the tune for you this Thanksgiving, this Christmas, this Haunika, this season of Solstice, this time of year . . .

Meanwhile, the meal is almost ready! Shalom, AM

No, I'm thinking of puris (pooris). Rolled, then fried, and they puff way out - if you do 'em right. Usually by the time they are served they have collapsed somewhat. I know my Indian food!

By the way, everything was delicious.

Peace!
