I wonder why this thread did not open to discuss the Oil for Food scandal instead of the question posed. I mean, for one, no links were provided to give creedance to this being 'the biggest monetary scandal ever', and gratuitous statements have been made all over the place, beginning with:
-We now know the TRUE reason France, Russia, and Germany opposed the Iraq war...they were getting sweet oil deals which noone seemed to catch and ask for backup to this theory.

Then: You can call Foxnews biased all you want, but if it wasn't for them...none of us would probably even know there was a scandal going on.

If the media had not covered the story than noone here would know what the problem was about, because no reference material was offered, yet everyone appears to know the story, even though only bare shreds of the scandal have been offered in this thread. This reminds me, which I wrote to bucket in pm, of a Push Poll.
I cannot help but see the transparency of the topic: make an unsupported accusation of the 'elite' media in the form of a queston, plug Fox News, accuse gratuitously- France and Germany for not going to war, give no references to support any claims, and call unfair when the thread results in everyone arguing off topic details.

The question was a simple yes or no, and would have died a rapid death if not for the veiled accusations.
I'm positive that most people would like to see anyone go down who wrongfully took money out of the OFF program or profited from it illegally.

What happened here was that people who believe in justice, no matter what side of the political spectrum, were forced to argue over what was basically, intended or not, a propaganda piece.

I think a real thread about the Oil for Food scandal , the seriousness of it, what information is out there (links), what is being missed, if the liberal media is ignoring it and some debate on that, if Fox is cutting edge on this, (which I thought was a part of this thread but apparently its off limits?! Leder, than what did you want us to discuss?) and what should be done, IS a good topic.
Also, what are people most angry about?

This thread did none of the above and its no wonder it turned into a confused melee. You can make a thread to inform, then ask if it is agreed that we are not informed, or you can try to smokescreen a whole bunch of other things in a totally bogus manner, which does nothing to encourage true debate and- informs noone of your position and why you hold it to be true.

Reason:Artemise, as I stated earlier, you are welcome to start a thread and frame the debate questions in a manner that would lead to constructive debate. It is certainly a worthy topic, but this particular thread has consistently become personal and strayed from the question that lederuvdapac posed. After several warnings, it is now closed.
