Apparently, Dubya, et al., paid
columnist Armstrong Williams to push the "No Child Left Behind" agenda. About $240,000 was paid for his help through a public-relations firm. This more than likely violates some pretty old laws:
QUOTE(from the article)
* The Anti-Lobbying Act, a 1919 law, prohibits the use of any federal funds to 'directly or indirectly' influence government policy through any 'personal service, advertisement, telegram, telephone, letter, printed or written matter, or other device.'
* The Anti-Deficiency Act, dating to 1906, bars any government official from spending taxpayer dollars for any purpose not authorized by Congress.
Do you agree or disagree that these laws were broken? If so, who is responsible and what is the proper punishment?Do you think we're entering a new trend of "privatized propaganda"?
