I am going to Hawaii the Middle of March. I am so excited. The last time I was there was in 1976 when I was pregnant with Jaime. Almost 30 yrs ago. (Jaime you are getting to be an old lady) whistling.gif But you will never catch up to me. tongue.gif
I was wondering if anyone has been there in the last couple yrs. I will only be on the main island. There were things that were pretty expensive because it had to be imported. Is it still like that? Thanks for any info. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I've spent some time in Hawaii. I've been to the big island twice and Kuai once. I like the big island the best as it has the most diversity, that is, eco-diversity. And there's still active lava flows going on which I have to say is pretty extraordinary up close. If you have the time and inclination, I'd suggest trying out scuba diving. If you aren't already certified, you can do a what's called a recreational dive with an instructor ('bout 2 hours of lecture followed by a couple of shallow ~35 foot dives). Scuba is about as close as you can get to an alien planet without leaving this one. It may seem a bit pricey but it is worth the experience.

I assume, when you write "the main island", you mean Oahu which I don't know much about. However, every island has one or two really good hikes to a waterfall. As for prices, it'll be pretty expensive, particularly food.

Back when I used to travel with my parents, on my dad's frequent flyer miles, I visited Hawaii several times.

On the first trip we went to Oahu, and never went back. I prefer the other islands, particularly Maui and Hawai'i (the big island). If I were to only go to one place, it'd probably be Lahaina, Maui with trips around that Island: Hana, Haleakala, Molokini.

Of course you can't beat standing near flowing lava on Hawai'i.

Oahu has Pearl Harbor, and the North Shore, I can't remember much else.

I wish I could help, but it has been almost 20 years since I've been to Hawaii (omigawd, 20 years?! ohmy.gif ) True, Oahu is too big and crowded, but the beaches are just as white and the water's just as blue. Some of the Waikiki beach areas are nicer than ones I went to on Maui. There's snorkeling off Diamond Head, lots of shopping, and of course, the Arizona Memorial. And lately, it seems, lots of cheesy lounge singers at the hotels. w00t.gif
