I've been hearing about this rumor for the past few hours, but now it's official, Johhny Carson has died from emphysema. Link

At the present time all there is at the above link is just a single line announcement. I'm sure we'll all be hearing about this more in the hours ahead.

Another one of the really good guys has left us.

I've been missing this man a whole lot! He was the best. It is a very sad day. sad.gif

It is good that his suffering is finally over, though. Rest in peace, Johnny! flowers.gif

I absolutely loved watching him on the Tonight Show and agree that I have missed him since. I am truly sad to see him gone. I am sure that a lot of people will miss him as well.

“And so it has come to this. I am one of the lucky people in the world. I found something that I always wanted to do and I have enjoyed every single minute of it.” - Johnny Carson's final show in 1992

I remember first seeing Carson on Who Do You Trust? before he took over the Tonight Show. I particularly liked Carson’s monologues and watched them on nights I didn’t watch the rest of Tonight.

He was a great comic with unparalleled timing and delivery.

The Tonight Show followed by Saturday Night Live were the two most missed TV shows on overseas assignments.

Johnny undoubtedly could break FCC rules with facial expressions when the FCC was watching! His cup of late night coffee was always strong and just as fresh! He was the man you always would curse for having a quick comeback when you thought of some really cool comeback after it was too late, if only I could have Carson speed!

Loved the animal segments too! He will be dearly missed!

What sad news. Johnny was an original. A wonderful comic with a great sense of timing...

NBC is doing a memorial show with many clips and old interviews; he left an amazing legacy. It's fun and poignant at the same time. Something they mentioned that I never knew-he was very shy and disliked being in large groups.

Johnny, rest in peace; you're a class act.
