I just ran across this most disturbing piece of news. I have been following PHARMA corruption in the US for some time, but this put a whole new light on things! Here is some information you can use to acquaint yourself with this issue.
QUOTE
Working stealthily BIG PHARMA has rapidly pushed their legislative program (Codex Alimentaris) in Europe that will eliminate the free choice Americans now have to purchase vitamins, herbs, minerals, homeopathic remedies, aminoacids and nutritional supplements. This elimination of all competition for the pharmaceutical industry will produce an enormous increase in the already exorbitant profits earned by the pharmaceutical firms. Of even greater significance the lack of free choice to stay well by taking effective nutritional substances will promptly be followed by a sharp increase in illnesses that will only be treated in the future with pharmaceutical drugs.

I Googled the Codex Alemantarius and found the "official" site:
http://www.codexalimentarius.net/web/index_en.jspI know that PHARMA is reported to be the most profitable industry in the US. They have been the subject of much debate, including several lawsuits.
Tha American Holistic Health Alliance lists this Codex as a major cause for concern:
http://ahha.org/codex.htmTheir Overview:
http://ahha.org/codex1.htmQUOTE
The Codex Alimentarius Commission was established under heavy influence of the pharmaceutical industry in 1963 following resolutions passed at the Eleventh Session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1961, and at the Sixteenth World Health Assembly in 1963. (More on the history of codex here) From its very beginning CAC's clear intention was to protect corporate interests in the global pharmaceutical and food markets.
http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/PHARMAC..._against_codex/An interesting new development in the US:
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050228/dcm049_1.htmlThere are several articles about Kevin Trudeau's lawsuit against the FTC.
Questions to Debate:
1.) Are these types of "International Standards" a threat to National Sovereignty?
2.) Should Codex be allowed to create International Standards to regulate the Healthcare market?
3.) Should the United States oppose the mandate of International regulations in an effort to preserve National Sovereignty?
4.) Who should "regulate" Natural Medicine, if anyone?
