Scott Peterson's jury recommended him for death row, and now it has been confirmed: Scott Peterson is now officially a resident of death row...

QUOTE
Peterson was convicted in November of first-degree murder in the killing of Laci and second-degree murder for the slaying of her fetus. A jury recommended the death penalty a month later.

QUOTE
A judge formally sentenced Scott Peterson to death Wednesday after family members got into a shouting match and Laci Peterson's mother sobbed as she called her son-in-law ''an evil murderer.''

QUOTE
Laci's brother, Brent Rocha, spoke to the court, saying ''Laci and Conner are the true victims here.''

QUOTE
Delucchi (the judge) denied a defense request for a new trial before upholding the jury's recommendation that Peterson be sentenced to death.

QUOTE
''The court is satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant, Scott Lee Peterson, is guilty of first-degree murder'' and second degree, Delucchi said, adding that he found the killings ''were cruel, uncaring, heartless and callous.''

QUOTE

Questions for debate:

1.) Although the trial is now officially over, do you believe it was entirely fair? Why or why not?

2.) Did the media over-hype the trial to the point where it became a "show trial" and became a one-sided persecution of Peterson? Why or why not?

3.) Is it likely during the that time Scott Peterson is on death row new evidence will come to light? Why or why not?

4.) Is Peterson really guilty? Explain alternatives if he is not. Support with logical ideas and rational theories.

I don't know if there will evidence that exonerates Peterson, but I don't believe he will ever be executed. California has the nation's largest death row, but it's been about a decade since they actually executed anyone. If Peterson were in Texas I would bet on his execution.
