In that thread Mike mentioned that over 100 hours are spent a month on forum maintenance, moderating etc. I can well believe this. I have just recently terminated active participation (though I am still accredited to the board) at a large international online dance board (I moderated five forums, wrote, edited, etc.,). The staff was comprised of quite a number of people and still the amount of work and time involved was HUGE.

And, we have all seen boards that have strident advertising and annoying popups......so that brings me to the gist of this post....
