I have discovered, after some research of the archives of this discussion forum, that I am at least a quarter-century older that the oldest poster (Ol Sarge); and so I don't think that my contributions will be relevant to you. I am, therefore, leaving this forum.

I thank you all for everything.

God bless you.

Nemo,

Sorry to see you go. I am five years older than Ol Sarge, 62--FYI.

I hope you will reconsider your decision.

Nemo that is absolutely ridiculous. I have enjoyed your posts very much. The fact that you are older -- is all the better in my opinion. You bring so much for to the debates as well as a different perspective. Please reconsider your decision.

Quite to the contrary, Nemo, I think your contributions are very relevant. I was just reading over some of your posts earlier today. Please reconsider your position. People in your age range are the minority: you're a member of the "Great Generation". I can't think of any better way to learn from your insights than by reading your posts in a reasoned, civil debate forum such as this one.

Once again, please reconsider.

Nemo, people from all walks and stages of life have something to contribute to AD. No one is considered too young or too old to have a valid opinion! I hope you'll reconsider as well.

I think I'm close to two quarter centuries younger than Ol' Sarge, but I still like reading and contributing. There's no age limit that is too young/old for AD, just people who like to discuss politics and what to do about them.

I think you're being silly, Nemo. One might as well decide to leave because one is a foot taller than anyone else here.

Nemo – like the others I find it hard to believe you are leaving, especially if the only factor is age. I think your posts are well written and thought provoking.

My guess is you’re about my father’s age and I’m constantly amazed that his wisdom and advice are as pertinent today as when I was younger. You offer that same rare perspective and we’re all fortunate that you’ve offered to share it here.

I’d like to read more of your opinions, please reconsider.

I'm a bit puzzled. unsure.gif The internet offers such anonymity I can't imagine why age would be a factor in your decision to leave. If anything, age is a benefit because you have the knowledge gained by experiences which not all of us have.

I must assume you are giving up internet debate entirely if this is your reason for moving on, because the internet is a larger draw for the young crowd. It's a rare person in his/her 70s or 80s who is comfortable enough to use it. Should everyone give up debate when they age? Apparently you don't think so, because you were drawn to this site for that reason. Life is short, and we're all only getting older, so if you wish to debate ideas with many people anywhere online you will probably have to do it with a generally younger crowd.

I can sympathize somewhat with Nemo. I can remember when we had a lot less to complain about than we do now. Most of the posters here have little idea how "bad" things were back then, or "good" depending on the subject and your viewpoint. It is hard to debate a point with someone too young to even begin to understand what we went through. Too many people today think they deserve everything without having to do anything. It certainly wasn't like that in the 40's, 50's and early 60's.
This isn't the place to start listing those things, but surely anyone here over 55 knows what I am talking about.

Nemo,

Hello there. I just now read your post, almost two months after the fact.
Before you sign off for good I want you to know something. There are many
people, like me, who look at our elders with respect and reverence.

It is your generation that got us through WW2. You have seen so many
inventions and changes, and you've survived! That is to be admired.

The only thing I will say about youth is that it is truly wasted on the young.

I hope you will reconsider. I would love to read anything you have to share
about your experiences in this cruel world. flowers.gif

Nicely said DP. thumbsup.gif

I would also hate to see someone leave because they thought they were "too old". The voice of experience should receive the utmost attention. Someone once said "He who does not know history is doomed to repeat it" (or something similar). What better way is there to learn history then to talk to those who lived it.

As for the Greatest Generation. We tend to look at the people of that generation as those who won the war, rebuilt several countries, etc. More important to me, is that they were the last generation where what was right was more important then partisanship for the majority. It is a shame that even though we surpassed that generation in several ways, in some of the most important ones we fell flat on our collective faces by comparison. ermm.gif

Nemo, and any others having similar thoughts, consider this. Who will speak for your generation, your values, and what you think is right if not you? hmmm.gif

Bah, stay or go. But don't say you're leaving, then come back a few days later, then say you're leaving again a few days later, get a bunch more responses to your most recent "good bye," and then edit the content of your most recent "good bye" to say "deleted."

This topic is closed. Thanks for understanding.
