Moif, you are also one of my favorite posters! wub.gif

I am looking forward to the time you can tell us about your little one in August, and the wonderful changes s/he will bring to your life. You may find that the little one likes to be up at four a.m. as well! laugh.gif

Indeed it is! w00t.gif Do you know if you are going to have a boy or girl?

Also...can any of your short stories or poetry be found somewhere on the net (in English)?
moif
We do not know whether it is a boy or a girl, but our doctor, after the last blood and urine test, let slip the word 'she', though he refused to elaborate and my GF decided she didn't want to know, so it may be a daughter.

This is in keeping with tradition since every single first born child in my GF's family is female (on both sides of her family) and in my familiy its 50/50.

I will be overjoyed to have a daughter, since I never had a sister and my immediete familiy has long suffered a chronic lack of female input.

If however I am blessed with a son, I will be equalling satisfied. Thankfully I don't have to choose. smile.gif

With regards to my short stories. Yes, there are some in English, but they are science fiction stories. If you wish I will send you a link to one of them.

That introduction was great.

Excellent news - congratulations. I think that, with population dynamics doing what they are, it is rather important that sensible intelligent people in the West have children, or else sensible intelligence as a quality is likley to disappear from our nations in the future. huh.gif

I have never travelled outside of Europe.
I can recommend Sri Lanka, Mexico and the USA as places to visit (though I don't think I would ever seriously consider living anywhere outside Europe for any length of time).

I have never seen a dead human being.
Really? Even in these death-averse times, is that not quite rare? At least compared to those (like me) that have, unfortunately, seen the sanitised (and refrigerated) bodies of loved-ones in artificially quiet rooms at funeral homes. Maybe I've just been unlucky.

I have a weakness for ‘curvy’ women with dark hair.

I like to fire automatic weaponry and blow things up but I have not had the chance to do so for many years now.
I do not believe civilians should own guns.

Me too. And, like you, I don't see any particular contradiction between the two. I would hazard a guess that some American poster might not see how we can reconcile the two.

My own view is that, in general, guns really are more or less neutral. I think there is just a kind of critical mass - a mix of the number of guns in circulation, and the public perception of their appropriateness - above which they should be freely available, and bloew which they should be completely illegal. I can't speak for Denmark, but I think Britain is (a long way) below the threshold, and America is beyond it.

I knew Aquilla, Vicky Silverwolf and Julien from other sites before I joined here.
I am happy to say I admire all three of them and am grateful to them for what they have taught me over the years.

That's very kind of you to say so. I think of you in much the same way. Indeed sometimes (on the occasional thread here,) I feel a kind of fellowship with you, not only in outlook but also as a veteran of that rubbishy old site we all first met on.
Maybe one day you might spell my name correctly, but I'm increasingly willing to forgive you for not doing so. thumbsup.gif

I have been in love since I was 22.
Then you are luckier than me. crying.gif (Any single women out there want to go on a date. Especially if you look anything like the sainted Nigella? devil.gif )

I am gradually going bald and not enthusiastic about it.
Look on the bright side. You will know when it begins to rain about five minutes before anyone else. I started seriously losing hair at 21, and was shiny-scalped by about 25, so I've had a long time to get used to it. This also means my self-image as an adult has never really included hair. I think it may be worse for you, since your self-image will need to change if you are ever to be content.
See that you do - the alternatives are looking as ridiculous as Donald Trump, with his Shredded-Wheat-hat effect comb-over, or Elton John, with his wig made of ginger nylon.

Actually the trend is shifting back in the opposite direction in Denmark now so with luck, we'll soon put an end to this depressing situation.

I think perhaps I've led a very sheltered life. My brother served in the UN forces in Kroatia and Bosnia, after which he came back to Denmark and drove an ambulance for a few years. He's seen so many dead bodies in so many different situations its surreal.

Indeed. I am extremely fortunate in this regard. My GF was the first girl I encountered after I left home and we've been together ever since. It sounds so quaint, but the truth is I'm as much in love with her now as I was then, if not more so. Now we've decided to have children, I keep feeling guilty because I am so deleriously happy.

Heh, funny you should ask. Back in the early to mid 90's when I first started spending significant time on the Internet, I was asked to come up with a moniker for one of the games I was playing (I think it was Mud2 at the time). Being the visionary I was blink.gif , I saw the Internet exploding one day and literally millions of people communicating on it daily. So I decided I wanted to create a name that was unique and likely to not be duplicated over time. Early in my IT career, I had many co-workers begin calling me Doc due to my uncanny knack for fixing/curing their various PC ills. A few years later, I began to work heavily with technologies from Lotus Development Corp (now with IBM), specifically Lotus Notes and their various software add-ons. So I decided to join the two to create my Internet moniker. As I expected, it seems to have stayed relatively unused by other folks smile.gif

So the shortened version of the answer to your question is that it was a joining of two words but I've always kept it as one. smile.gif

I have done logo's in the past though its not really what I do. Mostly I do illustrations and image work.

If you have had problems with a graphic designer, then my advice would be to keep your eye open on other companys logo's until you get a rough idea as to what it is you'd like to have made. If possible get some examples of the logo's you like. Then go to a local graphic designer because communication with the designer will get you a lot further than evaluating artistic merits or looking for a good deal, ask to see their portfolio if you are in doubt. If they're good then it will be readily apparent.

Another possibility if price is a factor is to find a graphic design student and offer them the chance to make some easy cash. Many students, especially those in their final year are very talented and tend to be on the cutting edge.

I have seen reference to tex mex food in films, but I've never understood there was any difference from Mexican food.

I'm afraid I would only be able to eat it if it was a mild version. I suspect what we regard as Mexican food here in Scandinavia would have Mexicans (and possible Texans) laughing hysterically. tongue.gif

One of my friends, an Anglo Russian no less, travels tot he states circa three or four times a year. I'm not aware if he has ever been to Texas though I know he's been to Arizona and California (not the same I know wink.gif ) and he raves about the Mexican food he's tried over there.

moif, your correspondence with Doclotus prompts me to ask something -

Phonetically, I've always thought of you as being "mow - if" in my head, but it occurs to me it might just as eaily be "moyf". For some reason I imagined it was some kind of acronym and a purely internet identity, but if it's something you also get called in real life, I have to assume there is a right and a wrong way to pronounce it.

So, which way should I think it? (Not that it matters tremendously, I'm just curious. Especially after chiding you for using an "e" in my name blush.gif)

Yes. Hispanic/ mediterranean woman are very beautiful indeed, perhaps the most beautiful of all? w00t.gif

My GF, though she is Danish is rather dark and does not resemble a 'typicial Dane'. You can see a picture of her if you click on my user name. I have no doubt though that my interest in dark, 'curvy' woman stems directly from my having fallen, helplessly in love with her and if she were tall and blonde than I would be drawn towards tall blondes as my ideal of feminine beauty. wub.gif

I have long wanted to learn Spanish though for I find it to be a most charming phonetic language. Like German it has some great sounds in the structure of sentences and conjures up all manner of mental images when heard. I am particularly fond of Spanish spoken with what I perceive to be a Mexican accent. It sounds so melodlic and soft, almosy like music. smile.gif

If I find the time and opportunity I think I might learn, at least the basics of the language at some point.

Which games? I seldom play tabletop games anymore...just don't have the time...but have a pretty fair collection of games. Do play some online war games...have you tried Blitzkrieg? This is a fairly accurate tactical simulation of WWII combat. Also played Third Reich, which is a very involved simulation of strategic combat in WWII. My favorites, though, combine war games with sci fi...Spaceward Ho! is perhaps my all-time favorite.

Hobbes.

I don't play hex games. I graduated into table top games from role playing so what my friends and I have developed is a 28mm figure scale skirmish system that extends through all historical, sci fi and fantasy settings.

Currently we're playing a set of Robin Hood games that I made. The focus is small unit skirmish with each player controlling 6 - 30 elements depending on the game size. Usually we play 2v2. We've also played some dark future/ sci fi games and some Pulp Heroic games set in 1935 called -ROCKETMAN-

Our rules are an ongoing development of the DBA system which we're using for role playing games now as well.

Usually, my friends and I meet every thursday and we alternate between various games. Usually its a big laugh but every so often blood and fur fly. devil.gif

QUOTE(moif @ Apr 26 2005, 07:32 PM)
I am moif.

I have very little faith in humanity.

I am very wary of bringing children into this world, but I am compelled by the belief that to procreate is my duty to myself and to my children.
*

I am a new member and I was browsing through some of the boards. Then I came across this one. Looked into the 'moif' thread because it had the most activity. I read through the majority of self decription and really found nothing that stood out until I read the two above statements.

The statements seem contradictory to me. If there is "little faith in humanity", why bring another life into this humanity? Procreation is not a duty, its a choice. What modern religion, ideology or type of education teaches "a belief that to procreate is my duty to myself and to my children"?

I find men and women who have unplanned children often rationize their parenting role into a duty that is expected in society or is expected by their church, or expected by their culture, past or present.

I'm open to another view. I quess the saying, To thine own self be true, fits my opinion. And this tends to rub it the other way.

Because humanity is the whole and a child is an individual. I have lots of faith in (some) individuals

None and since I don't believe in religion, I am not too bothered by what they have to say.

I can't really respond to the first part since my daughter was not unplanned.

To thine own self be true means nothing to me. Its like saying, remember to breath. People are what they are, regardless of what they think of themselves.

There is nothing I can do or think or say that is going to change myself. Trying to be 'true' to myself is pointless because like all human beings I cannot see myself so 'being true' is just another illusion, a way of excusing oneself from anything that might be inonvenient.

I look upon my obligations to my daughter as a duty to her and to myself because my existence is justified by her existence and not whether or not I had a great time.

Freya was the driver of a wagon drawn by eight cats. She was Queen of the elves. Her chambermaids were Fulla, Hlín and Gná. Her palace was in Fólkvangr and her hall was Sessrúmnir.

Along with the necklace, she owned a raven skin, or cloak of feathers which gave her the ability to change into any bird

Wow in a couple of years she is going to be really impressed with her names legend. Wagons drawn by cats..queen of elves and magical bird powers is little girls imagination opulence.

Whenever someone has their first child I always think of a song...all the Americans here I am sure will recognize it..
A man and a woman had a little baby,
Yes, they did.
They had three in the family,
And that's a magic number.
